The host’s speech is in slow motion. I sped it up to 1.5x with the app, but still found it difficult to listen to. The upspeak and vocal fry is intolerable. Lots of “annnnnnnnnd” and “thaaaat” words. Was frustrating and distracting to constantly hear the words “mountain” pronounced “MOW-ANN” and “written” as “RIH-EN” among a few other words with a “t” in the middle. I don’t know anything about production- so I may be wrong, but it sounds like these episodes are recorded in 20 “chunks” and spliced together because every few minutes the audio slightly changes. I was only able to get through 2 episodes, but I felt like she was unjustly judgemental about peoples’ behaviors in the death zone. If you’ve never been there you should absolutely not share opinions about people that should feel guilty. Guessing she’s never been on the verge of death and having to decide whether or not to leave a tent in below-zero temps, gale force winds, and zero visibility. I was really disappointed because I love content about Everest. I’ve read every book I can get my hands on and watched every documentary I can find. It’s evident the host has a lot of knowledge about the mountain, but I just can’t listen to it.

Host’s speaking cadence is incredibly slow, seems like she is simultaneously reading from a script and also just rambling. Was also amazed at the lack of research, shown in how little she knew about climbers’ backgrounds, how to say their names, and who their Sherpa companions were. Pretty sloppy job.

There is a “T” in the word mountain. Please include it in your pronunciation of mountain. And please stop making the end of a sentence sound like a question.

At first I had a hard time listening because the host talks really slow. But now I find it kind of endearing, this is a person who is passionate about the subject and not a “scripted professional”. I enjoy the information and especially the interviews

There is no need to use the S word so many times on the last episode. There are plenty of other cleaner words in the English language to get the point across. May be good to have an expletive warning in ITunes on this episode. Otherwise the show is good.

I just listened to the interview with Skip Horner and it was so good. I loved getting the perspective of someone who was guiding years ago compared to now. Just started the one with Guy Cotter and that’s super interesting too. Can’t wait to listen to more episodes!

I got a concussion and was told no screens or TV. I watch a lot of TV at night and use my iPad a lot. I had no idea what to do until someone suggested podcasts. I had never listened to one before. I had to find ones that would interest me. I have always been interested in reading about long distance hikes and death on mountains. I’ve also been fascinated with movies about extreme climbing. On a lark I searched on “Everest” and I found this wonderful and fascinating podcast and am so glad I did. Pauline asks such great questions in interviews and shares really interesting information. I also am fascinated with hearing her talk about deaths on Everest. It is part of the experience of Everest and important to learn about. Thank you Pauline for creating this podcast and keeping it going!!

Pauline is brilliant. She is struck by something she might never do herself. Everest calls her and she interviews unbelievable people. How can you not love an enthusiast? I am tired of climbers who think their own experience is the truth for all. She is curious and relatable. -Jim T.

You should rename it the drunk on Everest podcast. But I mean, slurring your words ? Your voice is whiney, You say “MOU-IN”. “I REE-LIZED” I’m thinking you’re trying to say Moun-tin & Ree-ah-liked Work on your annunciation of words so that you sound competent. Your Everest disaster episode was a disaster. Totally dishonoring the memories of the people who died. By the way, people who want to risk their lives to climb Everest assume the responsibility of knowing they’ll encounter numerous hardships including the possibility of perishing on the mountain. It IS NOT the expedition leaders or sherpas responsibility to die on the mountain due to the recklessness of the paying customer. The “Ultimate Decision” belongs to the individual. Take ownership. 1st death could have been prevented if they didn’t try to climb Everest. Same with all the others. They knew the risks, they didn’t have to be there. Fox yourself lady, because you sound like a wasted chick in the last booth at the bar who’s mumbling to herself.

I wish she would… 1. ) talk faster (i recommend listening at 1.25x) 2.) stop obnoxiously saying “right?” at the end of every sentence 3.) be more critical when it comes to questions of ethics and commercialization. The entitlement of wealthy westerners who risk indigenous lives for their own glory are profoundly entitled and it reeks of overt colonialist mentality. I recommend watching the film “Sherpa” for some perspective about the industry. “Choose your own opinion!” is a thought terminating cliché that shuts down critical thinking. Nevertheless, as a non-climber I still find it fascinating to take an inside look at the culture of the Westerners who test their abilities in this way, especially when it comes to attitudes about death and the treatment of the dying and dead bodies.

As an outdoorsy person, I love listening to this podcast. It’s great that the host isn’t scripted and I feel like I’m having a convo with a friend. Everest is cool!

Listened to one episode from May. The host’s cadence and speech patterns were too slow and disjointed. Made it unpleasant to listen. The info is interesting but the narration is so bad that it’s unlistenable. The host also has little information to support statements, and forgets names. This sounds like a high school oral report.

What a new and unique perspective. I love Alan Annette but it’s nice to hear another voice who has such passion for the mountain. Please don’t stop giving us episodes!

I also love all things Everest & it’s hard to find content about it outside of Alan Arnette. Keep up the podcast & great work!!!
