Scotland (A Scottish History Podcast)

112

Hosted by Michael Wilson-Park, Scottish History Out Of Order is a Scottish history podcast with a difference. It realises that Scotland is more than angry clansmen, kilts, bagpipes and shortbread. These are short, intimate portrayals of moments in history, and the stories it tells are people’s stories.

    What immersive fun!
I stumbled upon your podcast through Audible but moved over to Apple to continue it. I absolutely love everything about it - the stories, the backstories, the music is amazing! Thank you for sharing with this uninformed American who discovered she is of English/Scottish/Irish/Welsh and Danish through Ancestry DNA. Depends on the day which one of those is the most of my background - sometimes it is English and sometimes Scottish - those crazy DNA databases. But I am definitely drawn to the Scots - somehow I think I carry that music in my soul…

    Engaging insights
I really appreciate the insights and back story in every episode. I was s student in Scotland in the late 70s/Early 80s and the podcast adds tremendous depth to stories I think I already know. Great job! Keep it up!

I love the narrative nature and storytelling aspect of this podcast! Honestly, I’d listen to Michael reading the phone book, his rich timbre and accent are impeccable. However, listening to him telling these fascinating stories is a true treat.

    Love it!
My great-grandma and aunties moved from Cambuslang to the USA in 1920. This is really helping me understand their lives better. The flu killed my grandma’s oldest brother and her grandfather in their flat in Dalmarnock in 1904. Life was hard. Wish my grandma was still alive to listen to this!!

I find this Podcast to be well crafted and loaded with interesting stories of Scotland’s colorful and more often than not, tragic history. With it’s cleverly placed humor and narration in a lovely Scottish accent, what else do you need?

    Well produced Edu-tainment
I’m trying to learn more about the history of Scotland, so I was excited to see this new series. While the show is well written and produced, it appears that the agenda is more to entertain than to educate. The narrator is far too dramatic in delivery. I can see how many people would like this, but it’s not for me. History is already entertaining enough in its own right, and it shouldn’t be watered down.
  • hoooo2394
    Much needed and very entertaining
Like most Scots, I got taught very little Scottish history at school. Hmm wonder why. This podcast is really interesting, and teaches our history in a fun and lively way.

I’ve been looking for a podcast about Scotland for a few years. The ones I had found prior to this one weren’t very good. The host has a great personality that shows in his story telling. Thank you for this podcast!
