The Dream Team Tapes

540
Basketball #245

The #1 New Sports Podcast of 2020. The greatest team in NBA history, the 1992 Dream Team that won Olympic gold in Barcelona. Hear the incomparable players in their own words, including Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Scottie Pippen, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone and the others. Renowned sportswriter and author Jack McCallum was there with the guys and brings us the thrilling memories, personal stories, and sometimes surprising anecdotes of the twelve historic players. Season 2 joining Jack McCallum with J.A. Adande for an epic examination of the incomparable 2008 US Olympic Men's Basketball Team and the legendary players that defined a new generation of NBA basketball. They talk to players and coaches including Carmelo Anthony, Phil Jackson, Jason Kidd, Chris Bosh, Robert Horry, Jerry Colangelo, Deron Williams, Mike Krzyzewski and more, bringing you an insider's study in athletic challenge, transformation, and ultimate victory. Assembling icons like LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Dwayne Wade, The Redeem Team composed the greatest single team since the superlative Dream Team of Jordan, Johnson, and Bird from 1992. The US team was in shambles following the rise of Olympic teams around the world and their humiliation at the 2004 Games. It was the gold medal in ’08 or total failure — there was nothing in between. What The Redeem Team achieved signaled a total rebirth of USA Basketball —and some would say basketball in general — whose legacy we are living out today.

    Can’t get enough The best
Well put together, could listen forever. Wish each episode was twice as long. I have listened to all of the episodes at least three times can’t get enough. Jack McCallum is the best !

    Great pod
    I love this show.

    Great Podcast
I love it! There are so many bad reviews because of the ads, but all you have to do is hit fast forward a couple times and you’re listening again! 😀😃😁

Great podcast, use the fast forward button
This is a great pod. I was concerned because of all the comments about the ads. And yes there are ads, and they are always an inconvenience for the audience. But it wasn’t as distracting for me as it seemed to be for others. Just hit the fast forward a few times and it’s over. I wouldn’t let that discourage anyone from listening, because this is a really good podcast.

    A class in NBA History
Whomever love Bandelt all must listen to this podcast. Amazing history of the game! I remember watching the Olympic Games in 1992 and 2008. Pure joy.

What the Heck is going on with these ads
The Ads are really annoying. They’re like 3 minute long pauses which happens 3-4 times during the podcast. On the other hand the podcast is engaging and very interesting to listen to!

    Fantastic!
    Amazing show, man!

    Thanks Jack
Really enjoyed the pod, thanks for the memories! I was at the University of Washington in Seattle during summer school and I would rush home to watch the Dream Team. 84 was my favorite Olympics but the Dream Team was definitely my favorite USA Team in 92!

    So many commercials
Not a fan of podcasts that pauses mid episode for commercials. Really not a fan of podcasts that pauses multiple times an episode for ads. Tough to stay engaged. Content is good otherwise.

    Great info, horrible recordings
I really enjoyed this podcast series except for one thing that made it almost unbearable to listen too, the aweful recorded interviews from the players. It would have been much easier to listen to without these because the quality is so low and if your volume is loud enough to hear it them, a background noise would have you ripping out your earbuds because the levels were so bad. Honestly, the series could have done without the constant horrible quality of the interviews and just let the author talk instead.

    The ads kill this
The ads make this podcast feel like it’s just a cash cow with minimal love for the content. I almost unsubscribe every new podcast. The only reason I haven’t is that it’s a limited series.
  • Slimdickly
    In-depth, cool stories
We’ll get those m**********rs next time! Ha! Killed me

    Great....GREAT show
This takes me back. With all the clips behind the scenes I feel like I’m back in high school. I hate I missed the book, so glad I found the podcast. I eagerly anticipate each new drop. I’ve never tuned into a weekly podcast like I have this one. The interviews with Chuck and Larry are truly priceless! Great work Jack!

    So Many Commercials
This is more of a running ad dump than a podcast. Way too hard to listen to. I’m so disappointed.

    Review
Love the content - hate the ads. Jack is a great writer and narrator. I have been a Larry fan forever and can’t get enough of his comments and insight. Lot of humor here.
  • comegetpapabear
    Good podcast
Jack does a nice job here. I like his use of first hand interviews and recordings. It’s a solid podcast.
  • Desidero
The podcast doesn’t do justice to the interviews
From what I understand, Jack McCallum is a legendary journalist. This podcast is not his finest hour. He had some good material to work with here, but the podcast leaves a lot to be desired. He’s not as funny as he thinks he is and he’s way too self-involved. Why do all the anecdotes involve Jack’s relationship with the athletes? Who cares how well he knew the players. Get to the tapes!
  • fotees
    All adds
Cool podcast but the seemingly 50% advertisements really kills the flow
  • jEffigy33
    Bland!
The journalist had access to the athletes but couldn't seem to come up with interesting stories instead droning on with his opinions before an endless assault of ads. It's a great subject but surely there is someone who can cover it & give insight to greatest team of all time without boring the audience to tears.

    Disappointment
25 minute podcast, six minutes of audio, 12 minutes of poor audio, seven minutes of ads.
  • Tremolay
    So. Many. Ads.
I mean, I get it. You need ad revenue. This pod is only about 30 mins per episode though and at least 30% is ads including a huge ad dump at the end. Is this just a cash grab? Feels like it.
  • thompsondn
    Meh
It’s about 40% ads, 60% basketball. Of that 60%, at least half is completely irrelevant commentary that has nothing to do with the dream team. There are some interesting nuggets here and there, but overall it leaves you thinking that there could be so much more.
  • ajv808
    Behind the times.
This is Jack reading an essay. IMO this is behind the times. Good podcasts engages you. It’s either a good conversation or great story telling. This is neither. I like Jack too.
  • Ziggy Oshea
    Ad heavy
Like others said, commercial heavy. A 25 minute podcast, should not have over 7 minutes of ads. Kills any flow this podcast has. Nice stories but the book would be better and less painstaking without ads.
  • haywardloco
    It’s ok
To many adds and to much talking about what’s in the next episode.

    Great Podcast
Honest Insights from a Hall of Fame writer who was there. Compelling and well done. RD

    Commercials
Not sure the percentage but for a 30 minute podcast this is nothing but commercials. Nothing new discussed that the doc or even his book didn’t cover. Sad bc I love all of his books
  • BigHamptown
    Horrible impressions
Stick to the facts and leave the pathetic impressions out, the Bill Walton one is especially irritating and gives the impression that you are disparaging him.

Great stuff. A Monday evening must listen. Jack does a fantastic job of telling the complete story. Love the content. A gym rat’s dream.
  • kreed4
    Too many commercials.
Gotta pay the bills somehow, but this is 50% ads. Really hurts the flow and enjoyment of the content.

    Really Good Stories
Glad this came out after The Last Dance. Real good insight in furthering the story!

Great podcast on the greatest sports team
Last dance just finished and it’s reignited my memories of the 90. I really enjoyed listening to the bts info from this podcast and am looking forward to hearing more. Can’t wait
  • Jimny Longfellow Washington
    Not very informative
It’s the same information you get by going a simple YouTube search. Kind of just clogging the podcast waters.
  • lovesclay
    Dream Team
Fascinating. Learned so many things about an important period in basketball history.
  • moistshark
    Really enjoy the show
Perfect complement to the Last Dance. Awesome insight on the greatest basketball team of all time.

    Fantastic!!!
Well done! Very informative and extremely interesting! Loved it!
  • SCoach66
    Enjoying it
Great insight. Way better but than scripted Last Dance!
  • 00 Squirrel
    Insightful
Interesting to learn, in historical context, what started and widened the path from amateur to pro representation in the Olympics. I enjoyed the background. If that decision had been made as early as Lake Placid, perhaps the Miracle on Ice would have an entirely different connotation today. As there were no Dream Team tryouts, it will be fascinating to hear about the politics that went into assembling that team.
  • Stu_Rat
    Like an lame audiobook
Listening to his writing isn’t nearly as interesting as a typical podcast. It’s also a classic sportswriter style of writing that thinks it’s clever but is actually banal. Too bad, because the subject matter is interesting.
  • Tweingarten211
    Such a good listen
Totally loved this. Got all the info I was looking for and was really easy to follow!
  • LT Joel
Good, but recordings are hard to understand
I love hearing the details surrounding the dream team and this is fun to listen to. However, some of the recordings of the players are hard to understand. If possible, please reiterate what they say after you play it on future episodes.
  • Parker Gerald
    Awful
The Last Dance is legendary. This was lame.
  • 17528404
    Way too many commercials
Look, I totally get having to have commercials in podcasts, but this was on a whole other level. It was just a constant stream of ads, and a few minutes about the actual podcast. At one point I actually thought it was the podcast, but no it was another ad. I wanted to listen to this after finishing The Last Dance, but I’ll pass.
  • jackietaylor2506
    Amazing Podcast
After watching The Last Dance I wanted to learn more about the Dream Team and this is the perfect podcast to get all the information I wanted!
  • juanweiner
    Loving it
Just hearing the players in their own voice adds so much more context
