The Walk

1,616

A thriller in which you, the listener, are the hero. The Walk begins in Inverness station, Scotland. Through a case of mistaken identity, you, "the walker," are given a vital package that must be couriered to Edinburgh. But as you're about to board the train, terrorists blow it up and set off an electromagnetic pulse! None of the cars or trains are working - you'll have to walk - but now the terrorists are on your trail because they want the device you're carrying, and the police are after you as a suspect in the bombing. To survive, you'll have to join up with other escapees from the city - but how many of them can you trust, and are they really who they say they are?

    Bad Acting
Talking while pretending to be breathless is not acting.

Glad to see a podcast dedicated to the well-being of our canine best friends!

    Clever Approach
The First Person Point-of-view is a really interesting use of the medium. The framing device (mostly) makes sense. But ultimately it goes on too long.

    Well done
Entertaining and different in approach. Being a character in the story was a great twist i would give 5⭐️ but the ending was unsatisfying and felt like they really didn’t have a plan on how to end it. But still very good and worth a listen

    Love This Podcast!
The subject says it all! Please make more episodes!

    Clever, well done
Love the clever concept, and overall it’s well executed. My only quibble - why I give it four stars instead of five - the plot begins to meander. Feels like the narrative’s stretched out (and the story trajectory veers wildly in tone) for the sole sake of making more episodes. Would have been more coherent, flow better, had you simply added new seasons (or bonus episodes) to bring in side characters and story lines. Bottom line, ‘though - it’s really good.

HOW CAN PPL NOT SEE THE POINT
One, I LOVE this podcast. Two, how can people not see for sooooooooo long that YOU are the main character??? I see like over 35 ppl saying “why can’t we hear walker?” “I want to hear walker talk!” ... YOU ARE WALKER. Enough with me, listen to this podcast or you like T series (because I like Mr.Beast and Pewdiepie)

    Guys.
The reason this podcast is so good, interesting, and unique, and also why you can’t hear “Walker,” is because YOU are the main character. I can’t believe some of the people are leaving reviews saying “I cant hear the main character, I wish I could hear Walker!” YOU GUYS MISSED THE WHOLE POINT! At any rate. My rant is over and I rate this ten out of ten!

    Amazing podcast!
This podcast was such a joy to experience! It’s perfect to listen to while going for a daily walk. The story is interesting and the characters are unique. I really enjoyed meeting new characters on the adventure and trying to find out who I could trust or not! I love the first person perspective and I haven’t been able to find another podcast that is as interactive as this one! I hope the creators make a second season or another podcast with this format! Would listen to it in a heartbeat!

    Naomi is a genius
Only four stars because at times this was hard to follow, but the concept is delightfully new and creepy. I decided to listen to this after being smitten by Naomi’s book The Power and was willing to put in the time needed to get sucked in to this podcast. I’m ready to follow the creator’s amazing brain into her next dozen projects. So. Freaking. Good.
  • mordenarts
    Fun show!
I was not sure at first. I wanted to hear the voice of the main character. Once I got sucked in... cool ideas and all around good time!

Interesting concept that doesn't quite work
The concept is solid and there are some good moments, but the plot is a bit of a mess. The deeper in you get the more inconsistencies pop up and sometime soutright contradictions. Feels like the story was stretched quite a bit to get more episodes. I agree with some of the other reviews that point out the many plot holes. There is some great voice acting and a solid effort overall except the writing is very weak towards the end.

    It’s a fun podcast
I listened to it while doing chores and exercising. I couldn’t stop listening to it. It was something different, and I loved all the U.K. accents.

Great medium for a story that keeps you interested
Give this a listen. Refreshing and lots of immersive elements. Listen and share.

    So good
Not able to put down As a youngster I spend over 2 hours on the bus and listen to the series all the time The only thing I don’t understand is that they mistaked two girls for the most important package in the world

    Became a chore
The story started out solid but as it went on it became really absurd. I breezed through episodes 1-8?. After that your in for a lame bunch of episodes. Enjoy!!
  • McStevensonenov
    Becomes SOOOO Convoluted
Started out really well, the story is compelling, the voices and sound effects are great (although quite frequently people start whispering and you can’t make out anything without cranking the volume up to the max). You really want to keep listening to find out just what is going on. Unfortunately, the more you find out, the more ridiculous the story becomes. More and more plot holes start popping up, and after the hundredth use of deus ex machina to rescue the heroes just in time, you’re left just rolling your eyes, bored, and wondering if the writer is even trying anymore. The ‘immersive, you’re the main character’ idea is silly in a fun kind of way for the first few episodes, but it quickly gets tiresome, especially when you get stuck listening to really annoying and cringe-inducing monologues again and again because ‘your’ character is only with one other person but won’t ever say anything, no matter how absurd, crazy, and/or utterly evil the other person is. ‘Your’ character is just along for the ride, and never has any sort of even vaguely realistic reaction to anything happening around ‘you’. Also, as the podcast goes on, it starts hitting you over the head with the writer’s world-view more and more frequently and heavy-handedly. It really detracts from the story, especially when nearly entire episodes just turn into one character lecturing at you.

Was really fun... for the first 10 episodes...
...And then the same plot points just kept getting recycled over and over again, just with new characters. Performances are solid across the board. Sound design is great. Making the listener a character in the show is fun and clever but doesn't really add anything. In fact, it probably detracts from the story. Also, major twist was hinted at WAY too early. I think around episode 9 one of the main characters gives a monologue that is obviously BS then is revealed to be a traitor in like episode 20. But it was way too obvious so there was no surprise when the twist finally happened. About episode 25 I realized the show felt never ending and nothing new or interesting was happening, so I quit. Oh, also another major twist was stolen straight from another audio drama but didn't work in this story. It was almost laughable, I thought it was a joke at first. But it wasn't. Overall: Great start, meh in the middle, and then just WAY TOO LONG for a single season.

    Riveting
I was skeptical when I read about the first-person “gimmick” of this podcast but am so glad I tried it anyway. The actors are terrific, and the author is a great storyteller — kind of like a modern-day version of the Canterbury Tales, there are many compelling stories within the larger plot line. I was prompted to listen to this by an advertisement from the “Tumanbay” podcast — if you liked that I suspect you will like this as well. I binged all 31 episodes in 3 sittings.

    Great story very engaging
Great story very engaging I didn’t want it to end. Not one ad, not one mid story ask for money. I don’t know how this got made or who paid for it, but I’m thankful to whoever it was.

    I couldn't stop!
This show is brilliant! Every time it came up on my feed I dove for my headphones so I could listen. It's emersive and fun with mystery that leaves you on the edge of your seat. I can't wait to see if there's more!

    Missed potential
Could be great but is forcing far-left views in all ways. The character Erin is a gay homeless bum who is heralded as a hero. 🤦🏿‍♂️ really?

    Immersed in the plot
I love this story and the plot was amazing. I listened to it on my way to work. I found myself immersed in the characters allowing my imagination to build the scenery of each setting. Anyone who says they can't get into it or don't get it never had to use their imagination as a child. I hope they continue it!!!
  • Aid-Shade
    Wow this is pretty good
I love this! Although some of the audio is kinda bad. Some of the sound effects as well.

    Pay Attention!
This is a great show with a unique first person point of view. I don’t understand some of the euro slang (so 4 stars not 5) but WOW this show is riveting! Normally I play podcasts as background noise. Not here! I had to re listen because I missed important plot points. Save yourself some time. Enjoy the high production value, but don’t half listen... pay attention!
  • AutoCANE
    Good premise, bad execution
I thought this would be good - but, no. Unfortunately this doesn’t work - the Emma character, the non-responsive “hero” who is supposed to be you, the “9 year old” who sounds like she is a 35 year old mother of four, it’s all very odd. I really tried to stay with it, but I can’t go any further.

    Good...
Slow to start, this podcast ended up being pretty good. I loved that it took place somewhere that normally doesn’t get any love, (Edinburgh for the win!) The characters towards the beginning have a tendency to be really annoying but like everything in the series, they get better later on. I wouldn’t mind another season.
  • Decidedecide
    Really sad it's over
The story grabs you pretty quick with mostly decent voice acting and lots of plot twists. Hoping they do another season of this podcast.
  • Sfeltz3
    Amazing!
I heard about this podcast on another one I listen too. I cannot find another podcast that has captivated me so much! It is so entertaining and left me wondering what happens next the whole time. I’m glad I was able to binge on all of it within a couple days. So good I’m starting it for a second time!! I hope Panoply comes through with another season or another podcast just like this! Great listening

I originally started listening as a way to get me out walking... it was so good I would walk longer than expected. Then I just listened all the time. Hope there’s a Season 2 coming!
