genetically_alteredThis is THE REASON I cancelled Oregonian subscriptionThese guys are best timbers podcast hands down. But fact that Oregonian decided to turn blind eye to timbers( didn’t replace Ryan as beat writer, and now demise of podcast), I’ve cancelled Oregon subscription. So 5 stars for the guys, 0 stars for Oregonian.money better spent where I can get Timbers news realtime (eg stumprown footy etc).

Maseman4Negative without analysisBeen listening for years through many hosts and generally enjoyed the discussions. But I feel like the episodes used to be more insightful and analytical than they are today. A lot of that is the totally negative attitude of Chris Rifer towards the Timbers. Criticism is good and the Timbers have really struggled so far, but where is the analysis of the players, the positional set-up, the strategy? These days it is mainly, "the coach must go." Ok, the start of the season has been terrible, but what should PTFC be doing? How should the Timbers approach the upcoming game? That would be more interesting discussion than the sour and sarcastic takes that we get.

LH171981Thank you!As a new-to-soccer fan, this podcast is super helpful for me to learn more about the sport! I am a Thorns fan and love the coverage of the team and the behind the scenes goings on. I don’t miss an episode! Both hosts are wonderful, but Chris could interrupt a little less and talk a little less to give Ryan some more space for his takeaways and opinions. Thank you for doing this show!

Steve.ogiWe need this pod!Oregonian needs to full support this podcast and the crew who work on it. Such great content and we need this Timbers coverage! Keep the pod going!

JoshuaRumbaoaJGConstructive CriticismPortland is my hometown and I have been following the two clubs for a decade, as long as I’ve been into football. I have been watching as many games as possible and try to catch as much news and analysis about how they’re doing even as I’ve moved away for school and work. It is hard enough to find people dedicated to covering Portland soccer, and especially the women’s team, as in-depth as you guys and I am highly appreciative of your work because in some ways, it makes me feel back at home in the Pacific Northwest. Thank you for that. That being said, sometimes I find the podcast is hard to listen to because the chemistry of the hosts is kind of funky. Chris, or who I like to call Deep Voice Guy, constantly interrupts and cuts off Ryan to the point that tracking anyone’s train of thought or comprehending whatever narrative they’re discussing is really difficult. For example, Deep Voice Guy often does this thing where Ryan is discussing his opinion on something, makes a great point, and then Deep Voice Guy interrupts him to like reiterate the point or extend it just a little bit further for some reason as if his idea is falling out of his brain into his mouth and the mic has to catch it before it’s gone forever. This causes Ryan to pause for Deep Voice Guy and then there’s an awkward pause because the thread is lost and Ryan has to figure out where he was. A smaller example of how the chemistry is off is when Ryan poses a question to Deep Voice Guy and before he can completely formulate the question, Deep Voice Guy interrupts and overlaps the question to go off on a long rant where I forget Ryan is even in the same podcast until Deep Voice Guy is done and Ryan has to figure out where to go from there. I recognize this review might read dismissive of the cohost team, especially Deep Voice Guy, but I want to reiterate that I highly value this podcast and the work you both put into it. I may also have a bias against Deep Voice Guy because I don’t agree with all his takes and the way he says them but I recognize I need his viewpoint not just because his voice is truly so soothing and it makes whatever interesting (word used skeptically) point he’s trying to make more palatable to me, but because I love the Portland football teams so much and I want to see them from all angles, Deep Voice Guy’s included. The way the podcast flows in and out of it just needs a little work. Thanks again for your hard work on this podcast!

naynardoggGreat show but please fix mic levels!Hey I am a new fan, and I’m loving the show! but it’s really hard to listen to when the second guys’s Mic is turned up almost twice as much is a First guy’s. I’m constantly turning it up and down so that I can hear the first guy, but not have my eardrums blown out by the second guy. I’ve noticed it on the latest couple episodes. Otherwise, keep up the great work!

atomicpunk927Changing my review from 3 to 5Chris Rifer has rid himself of the ums. It is such an improvement I can do nothing but applaud. It has made the show much more enjoyable. Thank you for working on that. My previous review is below in quotes. I don't care about the NWSL and Thorns so I skip it. "Although I like the content on Soccer Made in Portland, and I am glad the show has returned, Chris Rifer has the worst sounding um I’ve ever heard and he says it so often I’m about ready to stop listening. It is incessant throughout the show. Please stop. Do something."

FlailbearMimosesGreat podcast! I look forward to hearing the thoughts of Chris and Ryan each week on the Timbers and Thorns. It’s like Mimoses at a weekend brunch.

armstrong.pdxBest PTFC podBest Portland focused soccer podcast. But, sometimes you guys go on a bit too long on a specific issue without adding to the discussion. Ad nausea. Also, need a bit more stats and analytics to make your points. More guests would be good.

KES1986Great showThank you for your insightful analysis of the Thorns and Timbers. By the way, you have listeners on the East coast—I live in Georgia. I’m visiting for the Thorns/Reign Challenge Cup game later this month. I’d love it if you could do another Food Made In Portland segment with restaurant recommendations!

Can't...Great show, turn up the volume! This show is great. It lacks everything that the Timbers themselves actually put out there. It lacks the homer-ism and allows for critical talk about the club. You also get salary talk, which becomes easier to understand the more we’re exposed to it. My only complaint is that even with the volume turned up to full, the levels are still too low to listen to with bone conduction headphones unless I’m indoors. I hope someone’s reading this that can fix this.

Whitley S from McKinstryWe want Emma!!Good podcast. As someone who doesn’t really watch soccer I think a quick recap at the beginning of the episode would be amazing. But what would be even more amazing is having Emma Knight on here. She’s a real soccer expert and has a lot of fluctuation in her voice, which could make things interesting. I think a girlfriends touch is just what this podcast needs.

MigSlayerIs it just me??….. or do other listeners get depressed when listening to this podcast when they discuss the Timbers? It’s bad enough that Ryan is continuing to put in the forefront every single problem the club is having in the front office (with no interviews from anybody in the front office, no less), but then to spend 90% of the time telling us everything wrong with the team, and trying to throw us a bone at the end of what our 2 or 3 key players might actually be doing right. As a matter of comparison, when you listen to “Talk Timbers”, even when we play poorly, the hosts there try to find SOMETHING positive to take away, and at least will give one hope that the team might correct their performance issues and do better next week. Listening to this podcast, even when we are doing average, still brings you down as a fan. What would It take for them to beam about the Timbers for their whole segment? I’m not sure that is an attainable level for these guys

PT_inThe crew is back!Great pod that I missed dearly. A lot of other Timbers and Thorns pods just became too salty and took a lot of the fun out of following. Chris and Ryan are a “low sodium” version of hosts and both really know their stuff. Love the interviews and journalistic approaches to hard topics. Also weather made in portland is a great segment. Long time listener, first time reviewer. Keep it up! PS. Bring back the predictions and points system!

dbeff123Glad the pod is backIf you are interested in the Timbers or Thorns you should listen.

MattRogerthoughtful and interestingBeen listening for a long time - really enjoy Michael Orr's measured and intelligent discussion of Portland's play and strategy. Kelly was great, too, and Chris has been an awesome replacement. I listen to a few podcasts - Nos Audietis, ExtraTime, Best Soccer Show - and this one I anticipate more than those, and I'm a Sounders fan first and foremost.
