HufflemadOK YALL LISTEN UPThis podcast… this podcast just hits different from the thousands of other HP podcasts. If you need a laugh and are a HP fan, we all do, gurl these wonderful Homo sapiens will lighten up your day. Listen or humanity will end (DUN- DUN - DUUNN) Edit: I wrote this when I was a lot younger and I was trying to act funny... sorry for making your eyes bleed but i have a WHOLE new appreciation for the podcast. I auditioned and a year later they responded and i recorded an episode with them(!!!!!) (Episode 384) And now i have proof that they are wonderful homo sapiens indeed. If you think it's fun listening to an episode, imagine being on one. Still can't really process it, but absolutely recommend this podcast. Love from Maddie (hufflemad)

CDQ2020I have an answer!!So, this show is 🤩🤩🤩 amazing, and I have an answer for ep 1, Yertle the Turtle, there is a book that has the names of every kid that shows signs of magic, and then they send an owl when they are 10 or 11. (The question was: how do they know which kids to send to Hogwarts? Or something like that) IM A HUGE POTTERHEAD, BY THE WAY! ⚡️👦 Love this show!!!

samwwwwwHow this pod has changedI’ve listened since 2006 to this podcast when it launched as Mugglecast. I’ve loved it for years. Over the last 2 years, my listening has declined and now I’m unsubscribing. Here why: I adore Harry Potter. I even went to the 17 years later by mugglenet in Orlando! I even guested on this show! But I really feel that this podcast has become a lot more about hosts than the books. I get really tired of joke fighting between hosts, highlighting on their personal lives, and more of this “character” format than just talking about potter. Honestly, I also think we’ve said most of what can be said at this point and while the hosts are doing in depth research on minor characters, it just feels like the personal is being added unnecessarily making the show less HP and longer episodes. I’m sorry to go but I just felt that so much of my eat time was NOT being spent on potter.

harry potter obssesed 1234I love this to muchOh. My. God. I love this podcast sooo much. I listen to this almost every day and is so invested in it. When I finished the books, watched the movies, watched the plays and emerged my self in the fandom I eventually realized that I needed even more Harry Potter. That’s when I found this. I have listened to this podcast for almost 3 years now and will keep on listening. Thanks for making such amazing content! :)

Just_trust_meUnfortunate hypocrisyI hate that I am having to write the review and that I can no longer listen or support this podcast. I am of the mindset that discrimination in all forms is wrong. I used to believe that the hosts felt the same way, especially considering the message of these books. Unfortunately, that is not at all the case, despite what the hosts say. They berated JK Rowling for her statements regarding the trans community and insist that tolerance is needed, but then go on to discriminate against and villainize an entire population of people (Republicans). The hypocrisy is concerning, especially because the hosts don’t seem to realize or acknowledge it. Because of this, I will no longer listen nor allow my kids to listen, as this messaging is the exact opposite of what I am trying to teach them. Hopefully the hosts will be able to take a look inside themselves and instead of continuing to spew vitriol and hate, they will lead with love.

Used to love the berryStop talking over the womenI like this podcast, but I cannot stand how much the men speak over the women, it happens SO often! Content wise, it is okay/good, could use less giggly chat, I regularly end up skipping over their small talk, especially when the dudes talk I’ve the women even when they try to get a word in.

RenéeSBThe not at all vexatiousness of this outstanding podcast.I found this podcast during the pandemic and immediately fell in love with the quirky conversations and the just all around great people that host this show that helped me escape the terror that is COVID. My friends continue to be impressed with the theories and opinions that I steal from the show and Desk Pig is now a running joke. If you have stumbled upon this podcast for the first time you are in luck! Thanks a million for all you guys do.

Cubone&NatutrainerLannisterfanThis is annoying plz helpSo these are the titles attached to Dumbledore’s name: OM (First Class), Grand Sorc., D. Wiz., X.J. (sorc.), S. of Mag. Q. Here’s what I figured out already: 1. Order of Merlin, First Class 2. Grand Sorcerer 3. Chief Warlock of the Wise gamut 4. Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards Does any one know what these stand for? - D. Wiz. potter - X.J. (sorc.) - S. of Mag. Q. I would be forever grateful to anyone who can help me with this. I’ve been a fan of the books since the first book was published, so a very long long time however I could never figure it out. Thanks 😊

SazzouAll good things must come to an endI used to love this podcast. I listened from the beginning. I loved so many of the original hosts but now it is just a continuous ramble without any direction. The hosts go off on random tangents and it’s not organized or a discussion at all. I can’t believe what I just listened to was a chapter discussion. They went off into talking about sunscreen and skin cancer... it’s become a mess.
-
ThePharmacologistDisappointed former fanI used to love this podcast. However, since Irvin became a host, I find it difficult to listen to some episodes. He constantly bickers with the other hosts if they dare disagree with him. There is a respectful way to present opposing viewpoints and I’m disappointed that the other hosts allow him to continue antagonizing them instead of just agreeing to disagree and moving to another topic. I listen to many podcasts and I have never been this annoyed with a host.

_wisc-gurl_Keep it upThey all do a great job helping us all make the series our own. Thank you for the great banter, original perspectives, and inclusion you bring to a series that has defined generations!

NotoyotaWhat a difference 1 host makesI’ve listened to this podcast since the very beginning and have generally really loved the content. I was thrilled to find out Michael was leaving the show until he was replaced with IRVIN; in addition to stubbornly not listening to different views, someone even more egotistical (“I always have to be right, it’s the Ravenclaw in me”), opinionated (“disagree! Completely disagree!”), combative (“Prove me wrong! Bring it!”), and clearly immature who alienates people when their opinion differs from his. Bringing him on board was a VERY poor choice. You’ve lost a loyal listener in exchange for this poor excuse of a host.

RPost92Still a great Potter podcastAlohomora has provided the deepest and most extensive analysis of the Potter books (and Cursed Child and FB movies) for years now. Though the best hosts (Michael, Eric, and Rosie) have all unfortunately left the show, Alohomora’a current group is still deeply knowledgeable and fun to listen to. Their current schedule of alternating topic episodes with chapter rereads works really well now that the original reread is finished.

hgrace13So much love in my heart in this pod 💕I started listening to this podcast when I was 14, I’m 21 now and while my relationship with Harry Potter has changed over the years, this gem of a podcast has remained a beacon of how positive and beautiful the fandom is, as while as reminding me Hogwarts will always be there to welcome me home. Whenever things are tough in my own life, I know I can put his podcast on and be reminded of the magic of storytelling and of friendship. If you’re a Harry Potter fan and you haven’t listened to this podcast, what are you doing?
-
Krysta16It’s not the bestThe cast is okay compared to the other Harry Potter based Podcast I listen to. The hosts don’t have good chemistry and I feel like everyone is just shouting their opinions at each other instead of giving each other a chance to voice their theories or facts about the Wizarding World. Irvin always sounds like he’s just shouting random stuff just to hear his own voice and can get quite annoying at times. I quite enjoy Rosie and her input about the topic at hand because she tends to stay more focused on the topics discussed. Other than that it’s no terrible if you just don’t have anything else to listen to.
-
Star fruit hoarderUsed to be a 5*I am ALL FOR having guests on the podcast. It is a great way when you have over 200 episodes to get different points of view. But this most recent male guest turned me off to this idea. Maybe not turned me off to the idea but I feel there has to be a better vetting process. It’s like listening to nails on a chalkboard. I’m not saying everyone has to sound like Jim Dale (gotta get in that plug) or Marv Albert, but it HAS TO BE better than that. Fascinating subject matter and I turned it off after 25 minutes because he was insufferable.
-
Dee.OlivaBringing the magic backThese are the MOST knowledgeable, thoughtful discussions on Harry Potter and the Wizarding World. I’ve been a long time listener and I absolutely adore this podcast. I listen to a lot of HP podcasts and I can’t seem to find one more I love more than Alohomora. The hosts are always so very open-minded and lovely. Will definitely always be one of my favs ❤️

morgana13ckLoveRecently found this podcast and I really love it! I think Irvin is really funny

monkeys and rabbitsMeh....The topics are interesting, but the content is mediocre. They often go off on pointless tangents which can be frustrating. It can be good or terrible depending on the hosts. Katy and Beth are great! Michael and Irvin are.... ok. They are funny, but Michael needs to tone the fake British accent down, it gets annoying after a while. He can also be a little hypocritical. Michael readily explains away flaws in certain characters (Lupin, of course), but he is quick to chastise other characters without considering how they are also influenced by their circumstances. Kat is insufferable. She is snarky, disrespectful, unprofessional, belligerent, judgmental, close minded and immature. She has a very petulant attitude when people disagree with her. She is too immature to accept the fact that other people have different opinions, values, and beliefs than her. If she hates a character, she has to make sure everyone else hates that character too. She often prefaces her opinions by saying “you’re never going to change my mind” The point of having a discussion is not necessarily to change anyone’s mind, but Kat is not even willing to be receptive to anyone else’s opinions. Judging from the other reviews, I’m not the only person who has a problem with her. Her personality is abhorrent.
-
sb9373847BiasI think this podcast would be so much better if the hosts tried, at least, to talk about the characters in a somewhat objective way. There is so much bias when analyzing the characters. Characters like Lupin and Hermione are exalted and their flaws are ignored, while Sirius, Ron, and Snape are dragged through the mud every chance. All the characters are flawed, but they all have virtues as well, it would be nice to hear both sides. Kat’s bias against certain characters is really irritating. She will not allow a single positive thing to be said about characters she dislikes, such as Snape and Sirius. I was listening to a half blood prince episode and the guest wanted a moment of silence for Sirius because he was her favorite character and Kat said no. I understand that we all have our own bias, but this behavior is not becoming in a host. Kat needs to grow up and learn to become more courteous and tolerant of other people’s opinions. It’s ironic that she is the oldest of the hosts because she certainly doesn’t act like it.
-
RyatlSigh...I’ve been a listener since day one but I’m having a hard time listening with the new host. 😩
-
pug_hploverLove itThis podcast is so interesting. I am only on the third episode but I still really love it. Thank u for this wonderful podcast.
-
ced1019New host has to goThis podcast has always been decent. Not great, but something to pass the time. But the recent podcast with Ivan- I could barely get through it. Over-talking everyone and dismissing all their ideas/thoughts. Your opinion is not the only valid one. Let people talk and respect their opinion. If future podcast continue like this last one, I will definitely be unsubscribing

thistle_finchGood, Not GreatI recently re-read HBP and decided to start this podcast at the same time. I binged all of the HBP episodes plus a handful of others with title topics I thought would be interesting. It’s good, and sometimes the discussions are very interesting. I like most of the hosts, as well. However, they very frequently go down rabbit holes and beat topics to death (especially theoretical ones) without actually talking about the most logical answers, which is so frustrating. I regularly skip the first chunk of every episode that’s devoted to reader responses because those discussions are just not what I’m here for. When your episode is 30 minutes in and hasn’t even started discussing the chapter that the episode is about... get an editor and get out of your own way, guys. When they get into the actual chapter discussions, I definitely enjoy it, although one of the hosts is continually off-putting as they get really aggressive and kind of rude when another host disagrees with them or has a different opinion. Which is too bad, because that same person frequently has good insights on the text at large. I’ve moved on to other re-read podcasts to find one that’s more my speed, but I’m sure I’ll come back to this occasionally. ... also, this is definitely a personal quibble, and perhaps it’s changed in recent years, but maybe get some hosts that identify with other houses? It seems like just Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs and wow, they do NOT understand Slytherins very well.

Darcy1567My First HP PodcastAlohomora was my entrance to podcasts about the Harry Potter series. Through out the school year, this podcast has been playing while I work on projects and math homework. When I’m drawing images or creating comics, this podcast has been a pleasant background feature. Overall, I’m excited to see what this podcast has in store!

CorgiGirl2010I want to like it...But the negativity of this podcast really gets me down. If you don’t like the material, why are you covering it? I don’t want everything to be sunshine and roses, but hearing something positive about the material every once in a while would be nice. The Snape hate is especially strong with this one. Showing both sides would be nice, just for a change.

Lobsty07A+++++Amazing Perfect Awesome Wonderful Great I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

M1294Good enoughI enjoy this podcast enough to download and listen to a few episodes here and there. It is very detailed and thorough which I enjoy, but sometimes the length of the episodes can make it feel like the conversation is just dragging out. It’s good for what it is, but it does sometimes feel a bit pretentious, I especially roll my eyes every time they pronounce Voldemort with the silent T. That may be linguistically accurate but face it, no one pronounces it that way.
-
Nicluv128Like a good conversation with friends.I adore this podcast. The conversations are in depth and thought provoking. I often talk back to it because I love the hosts so much that I feel like they’re some of my closest friends. Highly recommend.
-
Annomyous26Interesting & Stimulating Podcast, But StumblesThis podcast is definitely a love/hate for me- it is very stimulating to listen to but the episodes need some editing because the conversations frequently drift off into annoyingngly "humorous" interractions and are too long because of it- I would highly recommend (and I am being legitimately well meaning here) that an editor be hired in order to assist them with the show because the episodes quality is lowered by the often meanadering nature of the discussions which shoud stick closer to the objective of the episode. Other thoughts: Kat is definitely one of the smartest hosts, but she can come across as narrow minded and judgemental at times. A general note that I have for the regular hosts is that they can sometimes(though not always) unintentionally undercut the participation of the guest host which is a bit dissapoiniting for someone who has aspirations of being on the show, but sees that guest hosts don't get their time and effort to get on the show honored which is a lot from what I gather. In addition, the Guest Host may be somewhat hesistant to take an active role in the discussion, so that may also be an issue. Overall, I'd reccomend it, but I wish it could be better then it is at times.

🦉loverHow Harry Potter is amazing in many waysI think harry is awesome not because of his abnormal powers but because of the friendship that he has with Dumbledore and Hermione, Ron and the Weasley twins and most of the school but the character I was really interested in was snaps because he had an odd relationship with Harry’s mother but he’s discussed that Harry looks like James
-
tedheqtryt1356135ytrhjUsed to be greatIt makes me sad to give this three stars, because I've listened since episode 1 and I used to love this podcast. One of the newer hosts is almost impossible to listen to, with frequent high pitched giggles and squeals that literally give me headaches. Use more of the old hosts (or better new hosts) and make the episodes a bit shorter and it could still be really good- it amazes me how they still come up with new things to think about Harry Potter.
-
AndYeahThat'sPrettyMuchItStill a great podcastI still love the show, and I have since I first started listening (back when they were about to wrap Book 1). But recently you can tell the hosts are either too busy to do the show, or they just don’t want to. They brought on new hosts who are annoying to listen to, don’t have good radio voices, and offer no insight besides talking about something called Rainbow Brite(?) and doing an ear-grating fake laugh. My “dream team” for this show is Michael, Eric, Kat, and Allison. But nowadays it feels like Eric and Kat are never on. (Eric at least has an excuse, since he’s on a weekly show called MuggleCast. It must be hard to find so many things to say about Potter each week) But now it seems like they split Michael and Allison up and make them lead episodes with new co-hosts who don’t know what they’re talking about. I wish the hosts would tell us what we need to do to get the show back where it used to be. If they was a Patreon goal of “when we hit this goal, we will have the actual hosts on every week” I’d double my pledge. But it seems like they have no interest in doing that. I don’t know. This review sounds so negative, but it’s been building up for a while. I still the love the show. I really really do. I listen to each new episode as soon as I can. It’s just frustrating to see that the show still has what made it great, but it never schedules them to be on together.
-
Mirandal8302Losing appealThis show has slowly gone downhill since they completed the reread. Episodes are too long and meandering. I skip the first 10 minutes of each show to avoid listening to the same Patreon shilling and overly-long introduction of guest hosts. Michael Harley is the best host. He is courteous, insightful, and keeps the show moving along. Kat is also great. However, Alison Sigurd’s condescending tone is insufferable, especially whenever Cursed Child is discussed. I wish they had decided to leave the play out of canon discussions, but that’s just my personal bias. I’m leaving a two star review because occasionally the hosts dive into particularly interesting and unique topics that I had never considered before, such as disabilities in the Harry Potter world.

PilgrimCharlie86Favorite “Harry Potter” Podcast ⚡️I first discovered “Alohomora!” 4 years ago when the hosts were going through their chapter-by-chapter reread of “Order of the Phoenix”. I was thrilled to find that the podcast was devoted to being a reread of the entire “Harry Potter” series, going through each book in sequential order. The hosts are all fantastic and each bring a great amount of insight and humor to the chapter discussions. They also include comments and insights from the podcast listeners who add to the discussion on the podcast’s website. Even though they have now finished the reread of the entire series, the hosts are now doing topic-based episodes about different aspects of “Harry Potter” and the Wizarding world itself. This podcast is a must-listen for me on my commutes to and from work in my car, and other “Harry Potter” fans will most definitely enjoy it as well!
-
MadrianatAwesomeI started off with pottercast and was reluctant to add a new HP podcast to my list because I was afraid anything else would pale in comparison. I’m so mad that I didn’t listen to this sooner because I missed the deathly hallows reread. This is such a good podcast. They get really dee into the reading and I love it !
-
PollyyyyyyyyBestLove you guys, listen to you every week, thanks for making the work day go by a little faster 💖💖💖
-
IFoundTheDiademOne of my first and favoriteOne of my first and favorite HP podcasts. My favorite episodes are the older chapter rereads but I am so glad they have continued with topic episodes! Thank you Alohamora team!
-
Amers425I love this...most of the time.I love this podcast but after listening to the re-read from as far back as it would let me, the Snape hate gets really old. And annoying. Other than that it's fun to listen in my audiobook to a chapter & then the podcast episode.
-
TakoradaI really like this podcast however....The hosts are conferencing in from different places so the mic volumes are all over the place. Kat is the hardest for me to listen to because not only is her mic the loudest and therefore jarring when she speaks but I find her debate style pretentious and overbearing. She is very passive aggressive.
-
Gilda LockhartWas better beforeI used to enjoy listening to Alohomora but now that they've finished the global reread, the discussions are weary, slow and lack insight. I listened yesterday to the beginning of one that was filled with silence while the hosts tried to figure out what to say. Poor editing and dull discussion. I only enjoy it now when Michael is on, which is few and far between.
-
ArwenEvenstar0761Quite enjoyableI'm fairly new to the podcast and enjoy listening to it but the hosts MUST stop pronouncing Voldemort's name as "Voldemore." It's VoldemorT. I'm listening to the May 7, 2016 episode with Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley) and cringing with embarrassment every time the hosts say the name incorrectly. He was good not to correct them but come on - the name is said countless times in the movies, Jo Rowling has said it countless times in interviews. Please, please -get it right. It's Voldemort with a "t."
-
Lincoln97stop itIn general a pleasant experience except for Kat. She is dismissive and patronizing to anyone who dares to disagree even slightly with certain of her opinions. (Snape, duh.) She never misses an opportunity to sigh, snort, or scoff in the background when anything even mildly positive is said about this character. She screeches “OMIGAWD it’s not love it’s obsession!” at regular intervals. Dear God please stop, or listen to yourself. The tone of disrespect and disdain is relentless and hurtful.
-
hmhurstOne of my favoritesA must-listen for any true Potter fan. Now that it's almost over I may have to start over at the beginning
