I love this podcast! I have often told my husband that I hope reincarnation is real because I want to know what it's like to be other people. Well, this podcast definitely helps scratch that itch. The episodes are small and digestible. I listen to every single episode, and I am always excited for the next one. Thanks for making such a great podcast.

In a time when it’s not always easy to engage in thoughtful conversation with my kids, this podcast provides the perfect opportunity. We eagerly await each episode to drop, and hit pause many times throughout each interview to chat about what we heard. The kids learn so much without realizing they are learning, and love listening to a podcast that doesn’t talk down to them. What It’s Like To Be fills all of us up - and I often hear applause from the back seat as an episode wraps!

Listened to most of the interviews and my favorite was the brain surgeon and hospice nurse. Didn’t realize how important the type of nurse to be by your bedside in a time of crisis. By far she deserves all the gratitude and respect. Thanks for being that type of work to world for all of us to hear.

Dan has wonderful guests with insightful careers!

Dan is a curious interviewer who finds interesting people and has great rapport with his guests. He asks all the right questions and discovers such interesting tidbits. My favorite part, however, is how taps into the passion and humanity of each person.

Dan Heath always delivers great content whether it’s a book or this podcast. It’s really thoughtful, interesting, and well done. I listened to several episodes and I can’t wait to continue to listen to more!

I didn’t know I’d be moved by hearing a beer salesman or a welder talk about their jobs, but I was. I’ve learned something from each post and love the way you allow your guests to speak for themselves. Great interviewer.

I think it’s important in today’s world to walk a few minutes in someone else’s shoes. Get a feel for what some other people’s days are like. I found the interviews very interesting and fun.

This is a great great podcast if you’re trying to find what you want to do with your life.

Dan Heath is such a great interviewer! Listening to regular people talk about their lives and work is so much more interesting than a celebrity interview. Some of my favorites include the city manager, the brain surgeon, the toy distributor, the ice cream truck driver and the turnaround consultant (the phrase “available to industry” still makes me laugh.”) But listen to them all! I made my partner binge them all on a long road trip and he became an instant fan, too.

Such a fun, fascinating visit to these worlds. Relaxing. Just the right length and level of detail. A great conversation starter, and a wonderful way to develop appreciation for other people’s work!

Many time I listen to each episode multiple times and learn more every time. This is an amazing podcast.

I have listened to this podcast from the beginning and this is a top 3 episode by far. He was SO funny and likable, yet down to earth and incredibly engaging. His accent obviously makes all the difference and the whole conversation makes me want to travel to Ireland and hang out with him. Thank you Dan for another wonderful episode, you’re crushing it!

Gosh! I love this podcast! I recently found it via another podcast where Dan was a guest. Therefore, I had to catch up on the first season. What a delight! Dan is an excellent interviewer, allowing the guest to answer, hearing the responses then nicely following up. The guests are relatable, like able, real folks and neighbors. Thanks Dan.

Reconnected with following Dan Heath recently, and somewhere along the way, I discovered this podcast. It is fun, upbeat, and a positive look into the lives of others that we don’t often get. Thanks for the breath of fresh air so that we can live vicariously through others!

After hearing the host on The Lost Debate, I was intrigued by the premise of the show. Then I was delighted by the content. In five days, I consumed about half of the episodes. I have since interspersed the balance of the shows throughout my podcast routine, rationing these puffs of fresh air for when my regular fare gets too grim - an all-to-common occurrence. Three huzzahs for positivity and curiosity!

This is one of my favorite podcasts and I look forward to each new episode. The show is fun and informative. I love getting a peek behind the scenes of different careers. I always learn something new. Dan does a great job of summarizing the key points from the interview as well as drawing connections to the other careers he’s covered. Dan is a terrific interviewer and a pleasure to listen to.

After listening to a few episodes I decided to start at episode 1 and listen to all of them. This is a terrific show, The people have such enthusiasm about their jobs, and often focus on what they love. The welder was particularly delightful, he’s good at what he does, knows it and knows why. Dan Heath does a terrific job of making regular people good interview subjects. I highly recommend this podcast.

Just found this podcast and binged about 6 episodes. This is just fantastic. I usually hate “conversational” podcasts, but not this one. It is so informative, so engaging and really keeps my interest. My absolute favorite was the Navy Aircraft Carrier Commander ! Especially love the Lightning Round questions….i always learn something new. Thanks for making these and please keep it up.

No I didn’t just cry listening to the Stadium Beer Vendor episode 🙈. I’ve recently discovered this podcast and have enjoyed every episode. Dan is a great interviewer and he’s found some really interesting people. There’s so many jobs that we take for granted, and taking the time to learn about what they actually do is so interesting!

In brief yet dense and intense episodes, Dan Heath takes us through a lifetime of someone else’s experience not to glance at it from the exterior, but to explorer what it truly means to live a life in a certain profession. To me, as a podcast fanatic, EVERYTHING about this show hits the right notes. The diversity of guests, the naturally of conversations, the perfect editing and even Dan’s clarifications for context. Even something as trodden and worn out as the closing “five questions” format, Dan masterfully uses to gain a refreshing glimpse into the guests, that even themselves are often heard saying “nobody had ever asked me that!" It sounds exaggerated, but this podcast is changing NOT my days, but my life, as a man in my 50s seeking a career change after 15 years teaching, I find it utterly refreshing as I realize that whether a long-haul truck driver, or a cold-drink server at stadiums, what matters is not what you do, but how you let it shape you. One episode every two weeks hasn’t been enough so I’ve gotten some of Dan’s audiobooks now. Just awesome stuff. THANK YOU!!

Must check this out. Even jobs I thought I was familiar with, or that I wouldn’t be interested in, I learned something and enjoyed the interview.

I have listened to EVERY episode available. Since I was late to the party, I had loads of episodes to play. NOW I have to wait for the next drop and I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!!! When I first began following this show, some of the jobs listed by title didn’t call my name or intrigue me -listen anyway! Dan and the interviewees ALWAYS make it interesting and entertaining!!! He could interview a toothpick inspector and 100% sure it’d be captivating!

My fave part is the end: when Dan summarizes the interview. He captures the essence of the job, and puts into words the little details or nuances that may have been missed. No job is too insignificant.

I absolutely love this podcast! I was listening to Alan Alda’s podcast, “Clear and Vivid”, and Dan was on! I just love the premise! Short, digestible episodes (although, I’d never be mad at longer episodes!) I just love Dan’s inquisitive approach because you can tell he truly is engaged with his guests Thank you so much for doing this podcast. Who doesn’t love a glimpse into the lives of others? People we walk by, sit next to and work alongside every day. Thank you for this great concept, so entertaining!
