BayouradioWho Needs a 50 Episode Podcast on SPEED?Turns out we all do and Kris Tapley has come to our rescue. I look forward to every episode and love the route it takes. I wasn’t even the biggest fan of the movie starting out but this has given me new appreciation for it, as well as so many other things. Updated: We reached the end and all I regret is my future Mondays starting with “This… is 50MPH!” What a great ride. Thinking about seeing SPEED 30 years ago today with my nephew, who is no longer here. I came into this series a very casual fan of the movie, have since become a bigger fan of it, and have learned so much in the previous 49 episodes. Thanks, Kris!

vsphil007All-timer movie podcastThere is life before, and life after, listening to 50 MPH. As a massive SPEED fan, this movie was a load-bearing column for 13-year-old me when it first came out and has become a cornerstone of the work I do in film and TV. What Kris has done here is nothing short of making an all-timer movie podcast. It belongs on the Mount Rushmore of podcasts about great movies alongside LIGHT THE FUSE and ONE HEAT MINUTE. It feels effortless, just like the movie it chronicles. And how cool is it that a good guy like Kris finally got Sandy B and Keanu to talk with him about this movie, going into the home stretch?! The best compliment I can give this podcast is I wish I made it. Second best compliment? I could easily listen to 50 more.

KyfrancikThe Way Movies Used To BeBeing a Gen X’er, I absolutely love this podcast and the look back at how old school action movies used to be made. Kris’ level of detail about Speed is awe-inspiring. I especially loved the early episode that discussed where Keanu and Sandra were in their careers right before, during, and immediately after Speed. Did I think I needed this podcast? No! Is this podcast worth the investment of time? Absolutely, especially for anyone who loves action movies of the 80’s and 90’s.

DcphillipsMore like this!I love movie podcasts, but most of them are long one off episodes. This show scratches a completely different itch, 55 episodes about a single film. I’m sure it was a ton of work, but man does it come together. Since most streaming lack’s commentary tracks this should be a new sub genre.

Yammies95Nostalgia galoreI was 17. I just got my crappy car. Speed was in the theater. Instead of taking a friend, I asked my mom, which blew her away. That’s just one memory of many I have of this movie. It cemented my mom and me watching movies the rest of her life and exclaiming “oh darn” if either of us swore. I still own the VHS I bought 29 years ago. When I saw this podcast I loaded up the VCR expecting to be disappointed but man oh man quite the opposite. Movie holds up. I was still glued to my seat. I still want to marry Jack, be friends with Annie and never ride a bus. This podcast is amazingly detailed and includes drama and so much backstory. I’m only on episode 18 and so far no current Keanu or Sandra interviews. That’s not the podcaster’s fault but it’s slightly disappointing. Listen anyway, the you from 30 years ago would demand it!

herrpuk1What the World NeedsSpeed is in my top five favorite movies ever. I was 12 when it came out and saw it twice in theaters, and dozens of times on VHS the week it was released. So yeah, I’m a big Speed head and it sounds like Kris is too. I look forward to this every week and I sincerely hope there’s a Mark Mancina episode eventually!

SloppymanPop Quiz, Hotshot…This has quickly become one of my favorite podcasts as it perfectly captures the hectic nature in which a film needs to go through from conception, to green light, to being dumped by a studio. The amount of research and the participants that Kris the host was able to get is spectacular. I highly recommend this for not just movie buffs but for those who have ever been a part of the creative process such as a film.

AJ TrumanIt’s just cans, Annie! In addition to being a loving look back at a movie classic, 50 mph is a fascinating peek inside at the workmanlike process of how studio movies get made, how a movie comes together because of a million different decisions that could go either way.

Alec SolomitaExcellent Podcast!I’ve always been a huge fan of Speed and thought I knew most of its backstory and how it got made. I was wrong. This podcast has already had multiple amazing revelations and treats the action classic with the respect it deserves. If you are a fan of Speed, you need to follow this podcast immediately.

pennbarSpread thinThere are good nuggets in each episode, but lots of repetitive intro/outro so far. Thinking this might be better as a binge after more episodes drop so listener can skip repetitive sections to get to new info in each ep.

HerrmannesqueAbsolutely FantasticTruly one-of-a-kind and beyond comprehensive work by Kris Tapley. As far as I’m concerned, this is the new gold standard for this kind of thing.
