Sports #24

Buckle up for a wild trip behind the scenes of one of the most exclusive clubs on earth: the world of professional sports owners. A mix of comedy, tragedy, and everything in between, OWNED is the first podcast ever to take listeners way above the court or field into the luxury boxes where billionaires roam. Each week, former NBA player (and current Twitter all-star) Rex Chapman is joined by a cast of reporters, athletes, and comedians to dissect the politics, scandals, and scores of these eccentric moguls who hold our hopes and dreams in their hands. It is fun, funny, dynamic, surprising, and based on incredible stories; a hybrid talk show that combines the wit and flair of SmartLess with the reporting, storytelling, and production muscle of Campside Media, creators of hit shows like Chameleon: Wild Boys, and Suspect.Subscribe to SiriusXM Podcasts+ to listen to new episodes of Owned with Rex Chapman ad-free. Rex and Phoenix
At first I thought this was going to have the actually owners being interviewed. However Rex brings in insiders to to tell amazing stories about these franchises and owners and the city fan base. It’s really great story telling! Rex’s co host does a fabulous job as well! I like the fact that the show goes into all different sports which means many more episodes to come buy. Hey Rex , how about an episode with the sports godfather of Phoenix Arizona Jerry Colangelo. That would be one heck of a story!!!!

    I love it!
One of the most entertaining podcasts out there. Rex is awesome as is his writer Director cohost extraordinaire! Just wondering where this weeks episode is? You got me hooked.

You need to listen to Owned
Awesome pod. Rex is so chill and very funny. Amazing guests and Nicole does fantastic with her research. Love the breadth of sports they cover.

    Dan Snyder/Washington Commanders
I am learning a lot about the backgrounds of sports team owners on this podcast. It certainly sounds like Dan Snyder is made from the same cloth as Trump 😩

    Nicole, ya know
Nicole, can we scale back on the “ya know” usage?

Nicole and Rex banter makes this show
I could listen to these two talk about anything. Nicole is witty, and Rex is the perfect straight man (no offense — I know your name is on the podcast!). Thanks so much for giving me a chuckle each week.

    Hot garbage
We are so cultured… Cincinnati is so terrible… Donald Trump!
  • Mozzarella cheese stick OK?
    More Rex Less producer
Rex is great but leave the producers politics out of the show.

    Fun and Informative.
This podcast is so good. I am a 58 yr old woman and I recommend it to all my friends and my 3 daughters. The behind the scenes storytelling is amazing. Nicole does a great job researching the stories and Rex adds a lot of color with his first hand experiences. I have learned so much about the crazy characters in a diverse range of sports that I knew nothing about. I love that they bring on super fans many of which are comedians. Nicole and Rex have great chemistry with the guests and with each other. It is a great escape from the news these days. Highly recommend.

    Good laughs
    Fun listen, great background

    Out of touch
Was a huge fan of the pod for the last few months and really enjoyed the light take on sports ownership That being said, the Red Auerbach episode from this week was borderline antisemetic, and very out of touch considering the rise in antisemitism over this past weekend.

    What a Review
Dumb Funny. Great background story on these owners.

    Super entertaining and illuminating
Full disclosure, despite being a child in Louisiana during his college years, Rex was one of my my favorite non-LSU players and I followed his NBA career from a distance. Imagine my surprise when he re-emerged after his personal struggles as a voice of positivity on “the site which shall not be named”. Rex’s humor and the banter between the hosts and crew are a highlight of every episode, the show does not skimp on the research, and the guests are great. Keep up the great work!

    Great idea - poor execution
I love the pod idea! There are so much to dig into. I know it’s hard to put a lot of research into an hr episode but you can try a little better. Some epis are heavily politicized and it gives an icky feeling. Some information is not true like someone already pointed it out about F1 episode. And forced laugh is the cringiest part of it. I’ll give it another try but seriously, do a better sound editing with the laughs, it’s the worst part.

    Insulting to Formula 1
Entertaining podcast with interesting ideas for content, but the Red Bull episode is insulting to all F1 drivers. Kevin Clark claims to be an avid F1 fan, yet his ignorant explanation of “pay drivers” leads Rex, Nicole and countless others to think any rich kid can jump into a car and race at the highest levels. Driving legends such as Fangio, Lauda, Schumacher, Webber and Alonso started their careers as pay drivers. Super license requirements means you have to win races in F2, F3 and Indycar before you can drive an F1 car. Maybe Kevin forgot that Hammond on Top Gear UK could barely get an F1 car out of the garage without stalling several times. Mazepin, Latifi and Stroll might not be the best of the best, but they earned enough Super License points to qualify for F1. Do your research and don’t be a hater!

    Forced laughter
The content and guests they have are great, but as others have pointed out , the forced laughter and attempt to be rollicking are really annoying. I don’t know how much longer I can take it.

    Stop trying to be funny
Had to stop listening to Trump/USFL episode halfway through because Rex and Olivia were trying too hard to be funny. Fake laughter and silly attempts at humor were distracting the story telling. If you want to do a comedy podcast, do a comedy podcast. If you are trying to tell a story, tell the story. Leave the jokes to people that are actually funny. Pick a lane. Can’t try to tell a story and intertwine it with failed attempts at humor.

Very interesting content, but host banter style is annoying
Non sports fan here surprised to find the content very interesting. Love the history / guests. Do not like the dual host style / banter between Rex and Nicole … too cutesy and laughing at their own jokes which are generally not funny to me. Irritating when we should just be hearing more actual interview between Rex and guests. Let’s see how long the content outweighs the annoying.

    Rex!!
Miss your voice and your story telling. Kentucky Girl

    Short on Content
Short on content. Long on laughter at inside jokes.

Kareem never played in the ABA..
Rex you said more than once on the Dr. Buss podcast that your dad played against Kareem in the ABA. Kareem’s pro career started with the M. Bucks.

    Great new pod!
Fun and engaging listen! Rex and Nicole and guests bring the history of these billionaire sports owners to life - good and bad and Very bad history. Marge Schott and Donald Sterling! OMG - how did they ever?? Can’t wait for the next one.

    incredible
I love this podcast!!! Not even a sports fan but I’m obsessed

    Fun series
This was a better series then expected as I’m not a NBA fan. Next we need a Dan Snyder destroying the Commanders franchise series!

Good for everyone - not just Knicks fans
I write this not as a fan of the Knicks, but as a hater. I spent the 90s as a Pacers fan - a Reggie Miller fan. I prayed for injuries to Ewing, I screamed at the tv every time Starks was on the screen, I hated the sight of Anthony Mason. I still feel Larry Brown is a traitor. I can’t say that I’ve softened my stance on the team even though the players I despised are long gone. For some reason, it still brings joy to my heart to know that the Knicks have Dolan at the helm. I love knowing that they are a slowing sinking ship. I’ve really enjoyed listening to this podcast. It brings a bit of happiness to my morning commute. I hope there are more series to come on a similar topic.

    Excellent, binge worthy podcast!
Please make more episodes! Funny and smart podcast which I recommended to many friends. They all loved it - sports fans and non-sports fans alike!

    Soooo Good
I’m not all that into sports and definitely not the NBA but this podcast has me hooked. It’s riveting and entertaining. Brilliantly written and wonderfully produced. Kudos! Also, the host does a spectacular job. (I became a little biased once I found out he was from my home town of Pittsburgh) He really is phenomenal. I wouldn’t have guessed he had a journalism background. He has the chops of great an entertainer Well done!!
  • Mãrtįñ
    Surprising
I don’t care about sports but this is actually a really accessible, funny listen for a non-fan. A worthwhile glimpse into a wildly wealthy man’s life.
  • Not even into vid games!
    This is goooood
I'm not a Knicks fan, I barely follow NBA, but this is entertaining and fun to listen to
  • BallOut212
    Knicks fan, Dolan hater
If you love the Knicks you should hate James Dolan. This is a hilarious show about a miserable human.
  • yu jiamin
    Sell the team
Knicks fan for life, love the fact that somebody is roasting this bum
