Spesh713The storytelling we needThis podcast was chilling. Inspiring. Gorgeous. Heartbreaking. Above all, it’s accurate. While a fictional tale, it’s based on too many real stories to count. The themes are ever present in every day life. We need stories like this to help us see, listen, feel, speak…and change, once and for all. America CAN do better. Head up. Nose down. Rise together.

V!c+r!xI need Shonda in my life foreverWhy has it taken me so long to find this podcast?? Best audio drama in existence by the best writer on the planet. This tugged at every heartstring, squeezed every teardrop, hurled every cry out loud. God bless her sweet twisted but true creative mind. I am officially a Stan.

TaylorCashhGirlllllllI’m so proud of this podcast and grateful to you Kate for your openness and patience and willingness to open your perspective throughout the entire process. You asked the hard questions that needed to be asked from everyone involved. So many people have a distorted view on police because of cases like this, which is a form of PTSD in Itself and it makes us every day people toy and straddle on the thin line of what’s right and wrong. Especially things that are deemed wrong for one group of people versus another group of people. My family has suffered from brutal of the police too leaving my oldest brother paralyzed from the waist down. Unfortunately it’s a complete night and day comparison on how police respond to white people during traffic stops or anyone call to the police. The tone of officers when initiating a scene can set the entire tone for the leading actions going forward. So thank you so much for this podcast! And you did an amazing job, although the lining of questions seems redundant and insensitive it was needed. If more people that are not black took the time to have those open ended discussions with black people, and other then place there feet in the next mans shoes everyone’s outlook would be altered. There was so many things done wrong in this whole situation. But do know that just because a person has a job doesn’t mean they’re going to do it the right way or with integrity. Some people just have jobs for a check and to not make any difference with the job they have. Everything happened the way it was supposed to happened period. So again thank for putting this case out in the open more because me personally I know cases and I mean I hear a little bit and I can finish it off. But I have never heard of this case until you came along. I can’t wait to hear what you put out next! Your humility was heard through my speakers 🙏🏾❤️

mule145This podcast is a masterpieceI would to start by stating a majority of the podcasts I listen to involve violence and murder ( I listen to majority murder mystery podcast) but never have o ever had a podcast hit me the way this one did. While the whole series is amazing I would to point out some parts that really stuck to me and stay in head rent free 1. when when Niles is stopped and the police and they escalate a mundane situation. For context I was driving when I listened to that part. So Niles notices the officer putting on his gloves and he asked “why are you putting on the gloves are you preparing for a fight?” . The officers then go on to ask him a bunch of questions that aren’t relevant to the situation because most of them are based on implicit bias.the depiction of violence that follows got to me so much that when the scene crescendos I was going 80 in s 45 zone. 2. The officer is bleeding out in the restaurant and an EMT walks in. The implicit bias while he admits it also got to me. He went to check on the officer before even assessing the room 3. Gerald’s becoming coldness touched as well. I have no kids but I have siblings and I would be lying I stated I think he should have gone about things differently. His actions were a result of him living in a failed system and knowing it doesn’t work towards a certain group of people. 4. The officer stating that he was well within his rights to use the force he used on an 18 year old kid. What’s worse is he says niles and his partner’s death were a result of Gerald’s actions then he goes on to point out his tattoos stating they are gang affiliated tattoos.the man did his time and didn’t go back to a life or crime. The accusations hold no water (reminded me of the George Floyd case and how some people felt he was as a criminal and deserved to die when the man had already done his time ) 5. Finally what really will stay with me about this podcast is even if they ever got justice for the murder of Niles bottom line is his parents still lose because they can never get their baby back and Gerald understood that. That is why I can almost relate to how much of a broken man he was at the end because I have lost family not to police violence but to death in general (while I know the pain of loosing someone close and dear to me I can never fully comprehend the loss of a child because I don’t have any of my own .)I think Gerald holding a social media trial was him lashing out at a system that was designed to put people like him down ( people of color and minorities) to lose and on top of that the very system vilifies it when they act out. All in all this podcast was amazing !!!
