Rich Tretheway and Marc Scortino live on Block Island, a seven miles-long by three miles-wide rock thirteen miles off the southeastern tip of Rhode Island. Life can get...well...kind of interesting out there. The island is populated by a host of colorful and eccentric characters who coexist the best they can in extremely close quarters. When summer hits and the ferry boats roll in packed with tourists, chaos sometimes ensues. Tune in to find out how the inhabitants of Block Island deal with it...or not deal with it. *While the things we talk about on the podcast shouldn't offend too many people, some explicit language is used.

First time in BI. Happy to catch this pod full of good, local commentary and all the 411 for the island. From south Fla and can relate to the Bougie new neighbors trying to gentrify fun and funky towns phenom. 🤬 So sorry about the historic hotel fire but gratified to hear how local and mainland firefighters pulled together to contain the damage. Keep on podding, guys 👍

Entertaining

Anyone who has spent any time on the island should find this podcast wildly entertaining (for the most part). I will say I liked previous seasons so much more than the current one but I am also very aware that when it comes to compelling individuals to interview, the pool is somewhat limited out there and these 2 have done a great job getting some of the more interesting characters to offer up their - ahem- bios. Keep digging for characters guys! They’re out there!

Amazing!

Block Island has been my happy place since 1995 and I had no idea there was a podcast about it! I avoid the frat boy bars with live music as I go to BIRI to specifically experience calm and silence (I live in noisy NYC). So I have never set foot in Ballards or Captain Nick's (sorry guys). But this pod is amazing - maybe interview Jan at the Lightburne Gallery. She's lovely and is full of great stories......

A slice of audible heaven

Recently discovered this podcast, and I’m obsessed. Hosts are really easy to listen to, and so knowledgeable on all things Block Island….I live in Sarasota now, having relocated from the north, so it’s not as easy to get to my favorite place as it once was. This brings a piece of the Block home for me, and I so appreciate all the work and thoughtfulness that they guys put into it!

A fun way to learn the history and all the things you should and shouldn’t do on Block Island. I even learned that I’m a “Ponder” ….someone that lives on their boat in Great Salt Pond every summer. This podcast makes you feel like you are a member of a special club that knows all the secrets of my favorite place.

Thank you for bringing us this podcast. 50 years as a summer resident and still learning something new! Just finished Everett Littlefield’s book as well as Edi Littlefield Blanes book “Bound by Blue”. The old BI harbors such warm memories for us boomers. Gone are so many icons - Cutting Cottages, the ferry’s into GSP. Hope you can bring some of the old to life through your interviews. Maybe grow the newer visitors appreciation for the island as more than a pub crawl ❤️❤️ I’ll be listening!!

Hard to pick a favorite

You guuuuuyyyyysss! I love this. We all have a million acquaintances out here that feel like family that we know little to nothing about in a real way. This is such a great way to get to know more and feel connected to the people we see every day. And for those who don’t live here but love to visit, what insight to all the wonderful colorful people who burn and grind to live here!

Love how these two banter with the islands best to tell stories, you can almost picture what it must’ve looked like back in the day and definitely get a sense for why BI is the only place in the northeast where you feel like you’re on another planet!
