A Deeper Listen is part of why I’m a proud KEXP amplifier. The world at large seems to settle all too often for glossy, surface level nonsense labeled as “art”. If we only give time and space to product placement and basically audio advertisements, when are we actually listening to music? I think a program like A Deeper Listen is a reminder to seek out information about the artists you have no idea about and open your mind to a perspective beyond yourself. Exit the echo chamber and dive in. It’s not about blind agreement, it is about hearing the work an artist is doing and why they need our collective support. Thanks KEXP!

I It is fascinating to hear the artists talk about their music. I often wonder about their sources of inspiration and how they develop song ideas. This podcast does an excellent job of getting this information out of musicians. Emily Fox asks great questions, and KEXP features great artists, making it a winning combination and worth listening to.

Artfully drawing back the curtain on the reality of music culture and production. The first time this show really caught my heart was the recent five part series on Filipino artists and their impact on Seattle’s hip hop scene. Today just started the highlight on women and nonbinary audio engineers! These interviews, and the care in which they are gathered is such a consistent delight. I am lucky to have KEXP on actual radio, so when I heard the hip hop segment (Saturday morning?), I wanted to hear it again, so here I am. It’s amazing how the history of music of my city gives depth to what now often looks like flatlands of gentrification.

Dive in to find out the background, details, the how from the soundmakers. I have learned more from this podcast about music, political issues, and different points of view than i have heard anywhere else. Helps me see from someone else’s point, I will keep listening

Episode 94 is a great example of the thorough and talented journalism of Emily and the S&V team. Great job covering the topic of sexual abuse in the music industry and specifically, reviewing the events and actions that resulted in the demise of Burger Records. This podcast is a must listen.

I've really enjoyed listening to KEXP's Sound and Vision. Emily and crew, bring a great set of diverse stories and I'm always surprised at how a story I may not be immediately drawn too can end up being my favorite part of the episode. It's been a great addition to my regular podcast listening habits and another reason I power KEXP.

Every week I learn something new about the music industry. Topics are interesting and timely. The listener questions at the end are always a highlight.

How can I explain? I stumbled upon the KEXP podcast, Music that Matters, a few years ago because I was just looking for some “good music”. The first episode I listened to was great. I would explore the on air programs and stream KEXP as the new soundtrack of my life. I also eventually booked my first trip to Seattle and visited the KEXP studio. This podcast doesn’t disappoint. Continuing the ability to bring an experience that feels familiar but is always educational and new, Sound & Vision is a work of art. I feel connected to the contributors and call-in guests who share stories of strength and tragedy. Likely moved to tears on a regular basis. Consume KEXP. It’s food for the soul. <3 from San Diego.

KEXP makes it a priority to connect the community with music. This podcast is another example of how KEXP excels in this area. My love for KEXP continues to grow with the sound and vision podcast. I love it because it gives me access to the eclectic and interesting music stories I expect from KEXP, but on my own time. Sound and vision would be great for people new to KEXP to get a quick taste of the quality and diversity that KEXP is so excellent at providing.

S&V goes into many aspects of the music business, culture and other topics that shows what musicians deal with on a daily basis. The podcast also shows the difficulties the city of Seattle is facing in regards to keeping the music community vibrant and growing.

Really well produced and interesting angles on popular music. They go deep in unexpected ways. I didn’t think I’d be into this as much as I am.

I’m a long time early morning commuter and I would toggle back and forth between the Morning Show with John and Emily on KUOW for the news update. For a while now I cannot turn on the news without raising my blood pressure to an unsafe level and when I could tune into the news I was sad to not hear Emily. Now it’s the best of both worlds! I can keep it locked to the Morning Show and then listen to Emily’s podcast of afterwards. I love the content, the interviews and the insight. Great show!
