MLC-SFEntertaining and enlighteningThis is an excellent podcast. Michael is a truly good interviewer - he gets his interviewees to relax, open up and talk about their work, their instruments and their lives. Anyone who’s interested in musical instruments, especially wooden ones, and most especially guitars, will enjoy it. Those of you who are already interested in the craft of lutherie will love it. And some of you who are looking for a vocation in the world of music that doesn’t require musical virtuosity might even discover something life-changing.

_RilesMcGiles_Excellent Interviewer, Enjoyable Whether You Know The Material Or NotFound this after looking at Bashkin guitars on Dream Guitars (and drooling over the African Blackwood Placencia OM). I know next to nothing about guitar building, but not only have I learned a lot, I simply find the conversations incredible engaging. I started with Al Petteway and Paul Heumiller, but the conversation with Michael Greenfield was fascinating, even though some of their bracing conversation soared over my head. I love listening to the passion emanating from each participant, and Michael Bashkin has a beautiful balance of life/music/luthier questions which just leads to a great listener experience.

chakratesbeatsGreat podcast for guitar addictsLoved the Joe Glaser and Ian Davlin episodes

Nicky McNicknameInsightful and informativeMichael Bashkin does a great job combining broad, general questioning and discussion with more focused, individual and personal insights, resulting in podcasts that speak to luthiery, creativity, and music overall complemented by all kinds of “granular” ideas and experiences specific to the individual being interviewed. The guest list is fantastic and varied, full of genuinely accomplished and fascinating people, and Bashkin himself is authoritative, thoughtful, and relentlessly curious. He questions his guests with an open mind (unlike many podcasters, who just lead their interviewees around) and never makes himself the focus. This podcast is a real service. Thank you!

VR Workforce StudioWay to go!!!As a podcaster and wannabe luthier I have to say this is a great podcast. I love the technical aspect of the discussion and the science behind the guitar. I’m going through all the back catalog right now.

jcjenkins3Interesting People - Great InterviewerMichael Bashkin talks to an interesting group of folks who are very diverse, but all work towards a common goal of making great instruments. Michael always asks the right questions, never hesitates to ask the hard questions, but stays out of the way and makes the podcast all about the subject. A lot of podcast hosts should learn that lesson.

EviltwinlightningGreat for guitar loversCaptivating interviews with interesting builders.
-
scm_oneGreat.A fascinating look into one of the world’s most fascinating jobs—instrument building. The host is a good interviewer and picks interesting folks to talk to. (Makes me want to try building my own guitar!) Highly recommended.

JackychandamanGreat listenI love this podcast! Great guests and interviews!

MiserybobSuch a fun, well-balanced podcast!Often, podcasts for luthiers and songwriters end up focusing only on the biography of the interviewee and barely scratch the surface of what is, ostensibly, the topic at hand. Because Michael is an accomplished builder himself, he's able to pull out interesting technical details and build philosophy from his subjects. There's plenty of interesting stories about a life in luthiery, but I always learn some interesting tidbit from each luthier. Highly recommended - informative and entertaining!

producer17Room to growFor the most part, these remain insightful topics, with Bashkin willing to wander where the conversation leads. The contrast in signal levels for some interviews, however, leaves much to be desired for the listening experience.
-

water8landSo good!I’ve been a listener of this podcast since the beginning, but this latest episode with Ric Mcurdy was one of the best interviews, chocked full of inspirational tidbits and wisdom that only comes with the experience these two guys have. I’ll say it again, been a listener since the beginning, I’ll be a listener till the end, but this episode I will have to listen to again. Thanks and keep up the great work!
-

DWDinGAExcellent For Builders and Players! Both for builders -- who always benefit from the perspectives and experiences of their fellow artisans -- and players who want to better understand what makes custom instruments special, this podcast is a gem. I find it particularly helpful to hear other luthiers' stories -- their struggles, successes, failures, and lessons learned. Thanks to Michael Bashkin and all his guests for making this valuable contribution!
-
g winnertrue insight into acoustic guitar buildingthis podcast provides a truly insightful resource to anyone interested in the entire process of acoustic guitar building from the inspiration down to the details that make each instrument unique. his experience as a builder offers a well-informed interview of many incredible artisans in the field, yet leaves the listener yearning for the knowledge that only comes from decades of building. thank you michael for your time and effort spent putting these episodes together for us all. please keep it up - you're really onto something. gordon
