mleo11The Dig is a serious pod for people who love deep divingI’ve been listening off and on to the Dig for a couple of years now and I still cannot believe how thoughtful and deep this project is. Daniel Denvir is a real one. Keep it up.

Waiter in TrainingSimply the bestThe Dig is the next best thing to spending an afternoon reading a compelling piece of political nonfiction. The host is always well prepared with excellent questions and discussion prompts for the guest(s), the content is broad without sacrificing depth, and the “ad” reads are minimal and usually just for independent publishing companies that put out the very books I mentioned above. I’ve been listening to the Dig for close to a decade at this point and it’s played a big role in expanding my political horizons and helping me stay in touch with the political goings on domestically and internationally.

Peeps & JJMaking solidarityA left wing podcast dedicated to critical analysis of both history and current events that has given me new understanding of what it means to be in solidarity.

HoxaKingIndispensableThe most important, comprehensive, and accessible left political education project / podcast- think tank hybrid (it’s unique, folks!) today. Sophisticated and sharp analysis and commentary that is an absolutely indispensable resource for activists, scholars, and anyone interested in the conditions of possibility for the resurgence of an organized and effective Left

Oetam ZaidThawraAfter listening to the 40 hours of Thawra, I cannot but thank Dan and all The Dig radio team for putting together this inspiring and brilliant series. The story told by the guest, Abdel Razzaq Takriti, is the story of colonization and resistance in the Middle East, focusing on the twentieth century but giving enough historical context to make the audience understand why things developed the way they did. Razzaq Takriti makes available to the non-Arabic English-speaking audience a story that otherwise would be impossible to know at such depth and which (oh surprise!) resembles to that of other regions in the Third World such as Latin America. I particularly appreciate how the specificities of the Arab world are contextualized in a larger conversation and how the incredible in-depth historical analysis is complemented with some allusions to Arabic literature and culture. This series is an indispensable piece to understand what is happening in Palestine today and what is the role of the global left in it (other great episodes of The Dig about the Middle East and the Muslim world are the interviews with Ussama Makdisi and Tariq Ali); it also demonstrates what a powerful political and pedagogical tool a podcast can be, and how dialogue and conversation is in itself an epistemological device to understand the past.

lrh103great content, too many dudesimportant listening and i have learned a lot from the content and work to contextualize movements. but the gender disparity in guests (who tend to hail from an in-crowd of jacobin and boston review adjacent micro-celebrities) can get depressing. the left is bigger than this. i listen in small doses. i would happily support on patreon if there were more steps taken around gender parity.

kmw000Outstanding seriesThawra stands head and shoulders above all podcasts on recent Arab history. Please accept my humble thanks. If I could afford it, I would definitely support you more.

Tsteelman789Glad to see The Dig cover animal liberationI was really happy to see the Sunaura Taylor episode. Unfortunately animal liberation does seem to get ignored on the left and it’s an extremely urgent political and ethical issue. I’d love to hear an interview with Dinesh Joseph Wadiwel on The Dig! His book Animals and Capital applies Marx’s value theory to animal labor in capitalist food production.

SamSchaefer21Quite possibly the best podcast on politicsI’ve been listening to The Dig since 2017, and it quickly become appointment listening for me. Host Dan Denvir never fails to ask thoughtful, well-researched questions, and the quality of guest is unfailingly excellent. I especially admire the show’s unwavering commitment to internationalism. I know so much more about the struggles, dreams and situations of the world’s people thanks to Dan Denvir, his support staff, and the brilliant guests featured here.

SnibblersToo much Thawra.Honestly didn’t have an issue until like episode 7/16 or so, when they consistently started to clock in over 2 hours where Daniel took a backseat in all the interviews. Not even disorganized or uninteresting, just feels like it could have been more concise than what I believe combined is nearly 30 hours of material. Very good work but a criticism that I think needs to be said, especially as the epilogue rolls through recently.

LongpausesareweirdA wonderful podcastA wonderfully detailed and narrated podcast. I fully recommend to anyone interested in learning about the history of the Middle East. Not a whitewashed history most of us are familiar with, but a much deeper richer account.

Soror AKSWowI just listened to your interview/discussion with Mohammed el-Kurd. Bravo, just bravo! I am strengthened by both of you, but especially with how Mohammed finished the podcast. The comparison of life in the Us currently, where pro Palestinian people are getting resistance and punishment for their views-to life in the occupied West Bank. The absolute necessity of not being intimidated and silenced, but continuing to publicly resist and push back. YES. All of our lives, the lives of future generations- living with dignity and justice-depends on what we do right now.

Petey-pete02905Great show for people on the left who want to learn and thinkDan Denvir is a deeply thoughtful and well prepared host. He goes deep on a wide range of topics including issues around the world with very smart and interesting guests. Check out the 9+ hour long series on the modern history or Iran for the ur-Dig experience

HesiiwhshdowmshxA needed resource.Hamas episode is incredibly informative and important
-
BugdomKingFantastic PodcastMust-Listen for anyone on the left.
-
Tuval KayinA morally unmoored leftI’m unsubscribing from this podcast for its cowardly, tankie apologia for war crimes. Its a betrayal of leftist principles, and its a movement I will never, ever participate in.
-
Bunny CubBeen listening for years: no moreNo mention of concertgoers murdered and kidnapped because it’s by your chosen side? A leftism that can’t decry murder of innocent people is a cold pose indeed. Your academic learning defends you well. Unfollowed.
-
Alwasacritic311My favoriteI often listen to episodes a couple of times because they are so thought provoking. Really helps me understand the world.
-

CTNJ87Brilliant yet chilling Higher Ed analysisExcellent discussion of the past, present and future of higher education. I now have a broader understanding of the social and political economic forces that have brought us to the crisis we see today.
-
HeudjejsuxhdndbxhdListening to saliva the entire episodeThe host and guests really need to drink water before recording. Dry mouth leads to being able to hear the movement of your spirit through the entire episode and nothing is more disgusting in a podcast.
-
.......surlyDig The Dig!Dan is smart, well-read, engaged, and asks good questions. His guests - mostly academics - offer a left perspective on their areas of expertise. The Dig will enhance your understanding of the world-dig it!

vrhdbbaAmazingMy favorite leftist podcast: extensive and in-depth interviews with scholars, on topics they know in and out. Great interviewer !
-
HeyNomadOne of the best for leftist thoughtAlways stimulating and enjoyable. Daniel Denvir is a great interviewer. He has an easy manner but is sharp and focused in these in-depth interviews with left scholars, artists, writers, and activists. He obviously does his research. Some episodes might be difficult without background knowledge in the topic but in general they make even very complex issues accessible and digestible. One of the best, absolutely worth a subscribe and deserving of support.
-
bamboo TomVery thought provokingI love the dig because the host invites interesting authors and gives them the time and space to seriously consider ideas from diverse perspectives. It’s like having a global colloquium series. Thanks!
-
sotlatlBest political podcast todayGlad I found Jacobin and subsequently The Dig. The host is well-versed and it's clear the show puts a lot of time and energy into making an excellent and regular show that touches upon prescient subject matters with the subject-matter's experts. The guests are always able to discuss the subject matter from deep insight, though, and experience - often in ways I had never considered before. This podcast is essential listening for the American left, and is the first podcast, out of the countless I've listened to the past 15 years, that I've decided to support monetarily. Keep up the great work Daniel.

Babelito222You know it’s a good podcast when you’re forced to pause it to take notesMore than once I’ve tried to listen without fully paying attention. Not that kind of podcast. It’s amazing how much you can learn from this, and it’s not just facts thrown about, but deep analysis and context added. Agree with the politics or not, you’ll learn quite a bit.
-
BustacapuletI learn something new every timeAt this point in my life, I find myself thinking “my politics are settled and I won’t have another major paradigm shift ever again” and I know that can’t be good. Thank goodness I found The Dig! I’ve learned so much and come to understand things anew that I previously thought I either understood completely or didn’t care about (the inflation episode comes to mind!) This is essential listening for me and perhaps you too. Thanks to everyone who makes it.

farts&crafts420Invaluable interviewsInsightful and thought provoking

SShinobuSA warehouse of varying leftist ideals, light on substantial criticism. It is hit or miss with these episodes, often it’s a meandering summary of a book that a guest has recently written with little pushback or prodding about the historical or philosophical context in which a claim is made. There seems to be a lack of contextualizing radical ideas within the material conditions that they originate and exist, episodes become long orations about the ought without the is. Fairly bourgeois in its conception and like a long form meme in its execution.
-
JandrewcatWonderfulAn insightful and approachable podcast with great guests and an awesome ethos.
-
KD to purgatoryThe best political podcast in the gameThe best researched, most intense podcast about leftist thought in the game. I’m so grateful to have something this good available in the USA.

IsaLives2020Never mind grad school.Save your dough for the revolution and just read along. In all seriousness, it would be great if there was a reading list for upcoming episodes and one could read in preparation for the next episode. Denvir is a close reader and his clarity and questions are illuminating. Thanks for this hard work.
-
jwheel9Best political podcast in EnglishDenvir thoroughly reads new works by left-leaning activists, scholars, and thinkers & clarifies their points with incisive questions. Guests are always selected based on the current political situation in the US & worldwide & each episode leaves the listener with new analytical lenses through which to see Empire, capitalism, and the resistance and revolutionary movements born of them. Cannot recommend another podcast more
