Advanced TV Herstory

27

Finally, a podcast that studies, analyzes and celebrates women in TV. Thousands of comedies, variety shows and dramas have aired, yet the presence of strong women – both in front of and behind the camera - is an experience we need to understand better and embrace. With an eye to aligning the leadership lesson, time capsule observation or fascinating backstory of a show’s success or failure, my goal of Advanced TV Herstory is to connect the treasures of the past to the great potential of today’s TV and online platforms. Tomorrow’s success is rooted in understanding what has come before us. So gear up for a little sociology, economics, strategy, storytelling and fun.

    Great Resource
I just listened to one episode to get another perspective on a topic I’m researching and I really appreciate how neatly packaged the information is in a format that was so well thought out. I will definitely be listening to more. Thank you!

    The “Wow” factor
Who knew? All these shows I grew up watching - it’s fascinating to learn the back stories, and the impact on shows that came later. I find myself thinking “wow - I never knew that!” every time.

    What Was And Will Be
Abrams does a beautiful job of creating comprehensive episodes on women's impact in TV. Not only does she do clear research, but she includes experts to offer a more nuanced view. Episodes range from single TV episodes to overall social change through the medium. Definitely worth high praise.

    Fascinating, compelling, very high quality
I loooooooooooooove this podcast. There are so many media podcasts that are basically just "two dudes talk about shows they like" and this is a perfect antidote for the worst of those. The podcast feels like the best kind of media studies college class with the professor you want to hang around to talk to after class. Highly, highly recommended and can't wait for more episodes!

    Well Crafted Learning
This great podcast gives a new light to the impact television and its female characters have had on society. I enjoy the host Cynthia Bemis Abrams as she presents a new and compelling examination of what could easily be shrugged off as just another slice of pop culture. Part history lesson, part analysis, and very entertaining. I highly recommend you add to your queue.

    Wanted to LOVE this
The content is really good but the narrator’s reading is so dull. Would be better as a conversation than reading.

On Point for History Nerds and Feminists
I’m constantly amazed at the details Cynthia finds regarding people and episodes of history that I thought I already knew all about! Each episode is thoroughly researched, complete with interviews and real clips from the past.

    This Pod Is Going Places!!
Advanced TV Herstory shares some incredible stories of the ladies from late night tv and women who should have more stories told about them! Cynthia, our lovely host, gives excellent narrative to these stories and brings them to light with her great voice. If you like stories about TV history, feminism, and female representation, this is a MUST!!
