What happens when an athlete’s body is in peak condition but the mind is throwing flags? On Tremendous Upside, Women's Basketball Hall of Famer Chamique Holdsclaw interviews some of the most fascinating stars in sports who, like Holdsclaw herself, have faced real mental health issues. Featuring conversations with athletes like Metta World Peace (formerly known as Ron Artest), Theo Fleury, Suzy Favor Hamilton, Briana Scurry and more, Tremendous Upside reveals a side of top athletes never shown in their highlight clips. Need more episodes!
These interviews with top athletes bring them to life powerfully. Feels like Holdsclaw is so present and trustworthy as an athlete that these people open up. Months and, now, years later I often think of these stories. I’m going to listen to them again but craving more. Gonna pick some for my 14 yr old athlete son to hear.

    Great story
My father grew up in extreme urban poverty with alcholism , physical abuse and overall disfunction . My mom grew up in foster care My parents worked really hard and had one kid so they could get out of north philly . I always say where we are from getting out of north philly is like going to Harvard.

    Say it! Say it! Outloud
As a former collegiate NCAA athlete, these stories resonate with me deeply. Sport became my life- my family.... because of the trauma. This story, I am learning was not my own. Share. Talk. Heal. Move forward!

    Thanks for Sharing!
This podcast is very well done and easy to understand. It talks about the life of athletes and some of the mental struggles they go through. The information presented is credible because it’s about the life of Ron from his own perspective, therefor we can trust that he is giving reliable information. Overall, it was very interesting to learn more about what some people go through living in the projects. Then what happens when they enter a big league like the NBA and how chaos can result from inexperience. I am giving this podcast 4 stars for its content and in appreciation to the participants for sharing their story.

    Child background
The most interesting part for me is when he describes the way he grew up surrounded by a violent environment that really affected the way he has to deal with anger now that he is an adult definitely very challenging for anybody

    Cool!
This podcast is very good and has much room for improvement! In many points during the show I was confused because of constant transitions. Information is very strong but not many facts are given. This podcast is mostly catered for professionals to learn how some people may be feeling. Very interesting but not very entertaining.

    Insightful
I think it was very interesting to see how athletes deal with their mental illnesses. and the questions really gave an insight on a topic no one really talks about. I think everyone should hear the realities of dealing with a mental illness in the spot light.

    Great podcast
This podcast is very clear. The questions navigate through their lives and mental health illness. It’s interesting to hear about some of the greatest athletes and what they go through in their lives. It’s from their own perspective which creates a sense of credibility.

    Wonderful Podcast
After watching the documentary of Chamique Holdsclaw I was interested when I found out she was doing a podcast. Even though the topic can be heavy considering it's about mental health, the host is always uplifting and there is never a dull moment listesning to professional athletes talk about this topic. Regardless if you are an athlete or not interesting in sports, this podcast is quite entertaining and I got some interesting information regarding mental health.

I get so excited when NEW episode arrives!
I am a huge fan of podcasts. I discovered Tremendous Upside by chance... and fell in love with it. The raw conversations between the superstar athletes are interesting and uplifting... and makes you love humanity. I rarely write reviews, but the host Chamique Holdsclaw is incredible talent and beautiful person. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE!!!

    Nothing here
    Trite pointless no depth

I appreciate this new podcast so much! When Suzy Favor Hamilton’s episode came up, I immediately listened to it. I identified with her so much. I can’t wait to hear more stories from different athletes. I think getting an interview from Gracie Gold and Mary Cain would be amazing.... survivors of the Nassau and Salazar scandal.... Talking about the struggles is so powerful. I can see how people can think negatively of this honesty and openness... but this is the reality of things, and I appreciate this podcast for helping in changing the stigma.

Performance physically is only part of the story
Thank you for what you do! I for years suffered with depression & was a swimmer growing up. I never “made it so far” but all the various relatable mental struggles have me hanging in through every episode with total relative associations. I truly just truly think talking candidly about mental struggles is SO NEEDED - thank you!

I appreciate this podcast and sharing real life testimony to help end the stigma in mental health. There is a widespread negative connotation on athletes in seeking professional help, to provide them with coping mechanism with their mental health. I appreciate this podcast and Metta World Peace being vulnerable enough to tell his story. Thank you Chamique Holdsclaw for providing this platform to speak on this topic.

I was a student athlete and I LOVE THIS PODCAST
I only listened to the first episode and I’m already hooked. I played basketball and delt with mental health on the court too just like the first guest. I can’t wait to hear more athletes perspective because I feel like this is the first great platform they have had to! Thank you for this podcast and the help it has already given me!

Thank you for opening our eyes
I love the fact that you are bringing mental health issues to the forefront. Everyone needs to hear how others have struggled and found a way out of the hurtfulness of metal illness to themselves and others! Thank you for being inspiring in the true meaning of the word champion, a person who perseveres through the challenges of life!!!
