Slab City Blues: A Hymn to Gods Long Dead

8

The Slab. A vast orbiting slum where sweat falls in rain and the gene-spliced come in all shapes and sizes. Inspector Alex McLeod, recently suspended for excessive force and nurturing a growing addiction to bourbon, has been reduced to tending bar when an improbably beautiful vampire comes to him with a bizarre theory: there's a killer on the Slab, a killer with a liking for recreating ancient myth, in bloody and spectacular fashion. But who exactly is this vampire, and how does she know so much? And what kind of killer can walk through security systems without a trace, leaving deadly traps for those hunting him?

    Great!
Definitely give this a try. The narration is pretty fast but you will get used to it and you will be very glad you stuck with it.

    Interesting World, Interesting Mystery!
So many interesting things going on in this story! Pace is fast so I relistened a few times so I could think about each scene. Narration is a bit quiet, theme music isn’t, so watch your earbuds.

Thank you for sharing your writing.
I confess I came across Slab City Blues while desperately searching for the release date of Tower Lord, but Slab City Blues is much more engrossing and interesting than a lot of the other epic fantasy in the market these days. Perhaps the fifth star is due to the love I have for Blood Song, as I understand the other reviewer's complaints about the fast reading. It is definitely not the book I could listen to while pretending to watch Teen Titans Go with my toddler, lol. On the other hand, I love hearing the story from the author's voice. The honesty of the stream of consciousness of Alex's thoughts is so juicy and dark. I am grateful to the author for sharing these stories and am hoping Mr. Ryan enjoys a long, profitable career, as a writer, that is.

    Good story but!!
The author needs to slow down. He reads to fast. Not enough dramatic pauses to engage listeners. Decent story though.
