How to Succeed in Evil: The Novel

54

Alternately funny and dark, How to Succeed in Evil: The Novel, is the story of Edwin Windsor, Evil Efficiency Consultant. A biting satire of both modern business and the conventions of the superhero genre. This is new content, distinct from the original podcast episodes that have been up on podiobooks since 2006. While the novel is contained within the original podcast story arc, there's a lot more depth. Many new characters, much subplottery and (to use a technical term) it's funny as balls. Among other things we get to know Dr. Loeb a lot better. If you love one, you'll love the other. But to put it in some kind of perspective, the original podcast episodes might be best thought of as really good notes, character sketches, etc. But maybe that's downplaying them a bit as they were good enough to win a Parsec award? Also the Original Podcast Episodes have a lot of rich sound design in them. How to Succeed in Evil: The Novel is more of a traditional audiobook.

    Doesn’t age well
This superhero story takes irreverent too far into the territory of problematic and offensive. In the few episodes I heard, particular attention was paid to little people, southerners, and women. There is also beastiality and slavery.

    Hilarious
The characters are well thought out. It’s an off beat take on the Good vs Evil theme.

    AMAZING
This story line is probably the most original collection of characters in the most original take on the super hero genre I have seen. I have had several people look at me very strangely when I suddenly start laughing almost uncontrollably. Check this out!

    Awesome!
It's like watching Accord thrown into the DC universe or something. Also, very well read.

    Great story!
I loved the story, the plot, the characters. Little Topper is my fave! There are quite a few things to edit out when you touch up; times where you repeat yourself, pause....times where you repeat yourself, but it's an amazing fresh take on super villains.

    Best of all worlds
A fantastic satire of modern business, honor and super heros. Simply produced giving great effect and well read. Other authors that read their own work for audiobooks should take a lesson or two from Mr. McLean. Please tell me there's a movie deal in the works

    Great Book!
I'm not usually interested in things business or superhero related, but I downloaded this one on a whim as something to do during the two hour break in my classes. After playing the first one to see if I'd like the story, I got hooked, and ended up listening to the entire book that night. The story is great, I will definitely have to keep a look out for any more of McLean's works!

    WOW!!!!
This story is Hi-F'n-larious. McLean's style is fantasic, with Edwin's dryness and Toppers, well, over the TOPness. Topper, what can you say about topper, he steals the show.

    First Time Lucky
I had never dowloaded an audiobook before and this was a pleasant surprise. I had read the description and the revious from past listener's and gave it a shot. Great story and Mclean's voice behind his characters showed great depth. I am looking forward to another Podiobook and hopefully a sequel to Edwin Windsor and Excelsior.

    Great fun.
This is a non-traditional tongue-in-cheek look at "Good" vs. "Evil". It is a humorous look at an Evil Consultant and the challenges he faces when developing plans for super villans. The production is pretty good an the story is entertaining. Its definitely worth a listen.
