    Good podcasts
Could you do some book recommendations of ace and aro books I have a hard time finding those.

    Blah
I could barely understand what they were saying so I got very confused. Also I don’t like ads in podcasts, so I immediately stopped listening after about five minutes.

    Podcast
I love podcast. This is so cool.

    Amateur vibe
Too many "um"s and so many "This book is so good" comments. They sound amateurish.

    I’m sorry what?!?!
Not gonna lie used really enjoy this podcast…. But just heard an episode where they said conservative Christians were “the enemy”. Not cool. I’m both those things and I don’t mind you having your views so why do you have to demonize mine? Kind of frustrated with this. We are people too. Just trying to enjoy reading and be in a community of readers.

Recommendations you won’t find anywhere else
I am an avid YA reader, and sometimes I get sick of BookTube, Epic Reads, and other online bookish spaces because they recommend the same, mostly white, books on rotation. When I discovered this podcast, I found so many new recommendations in the first episode I listened to alone. Kelly and Eric (and now Kelly and Sarah) KNOW YA, and they KNOW indie books. In every episode, I find new reads that not only fit my reading tastes but are fantastic titles that are not getting nearly enough attention. For example, I picked up The Last Summer of the Garrett Girls a few years ago based on Kelly’s recommendation, and I still swoon over the book to this day. If Kelly hadn’t recommended it, I wouldn’t have picked it up and I would have missed out on my favorite read of that summer. If you are looking for recommendations that aren’t the 5 “hot” new titles being publicized that you’ve already read, PLEASE listen to this phenomenal podcast. Also, and this won’t persuade you to listen, but the hosts and I have similar reading tastes and bookish-sphere topics that interest us and it makes me happy :)

    Hey YA
As a Book Riot subscriber I took a chance and listened to Hey YA out of curiosity. I wasn’t familiar with YA literature before I started listening to Hey YA. Hannah & Kelly have made a new YA reader of me.

    Meh
They talk too fast and there are too many sponsors

    Read what you Recommend
Does Eric Smith actually read books? Everything seems to be “on his list.” Including the books he recommends.

    Quality isn’t great
What annoys me about this pod is that the past few weeks, Eric has said he hasn’t had much time to read, but...Come on, dude, do your homework! As other reviews have stated, they need more substance in their shows. Every single segment can’t just be book recs. (They have a guest this week, which is an improvement.) I would much prefer that they model their show after Kid Lit, they latest Book Riot podcast. That show is much more polished, including sound quality!

Always look forward to their episodes
I always look forward to my morning commute if a new episode of Hey YA is waiting for me. Kelly and Eric have such great chemistry and their laughter is contagious. I love hearing their recommendations for YA books and learning their inside jokes from previous episodes. They inspire me to keep reading, writing, and learning.

    YA discussions with unique perspectives
I love this podcast, both for its content, the expertise/enthusiasm of the hosts, and the additions to my TBR list it always gives me. This is a great podcasts for writers of YA who like to keep an ear to the ground as well as teenagers looking for something just right to read. The title itself (my favorite!) points to the intentionality and the cleverness in the entire production. If you like YA, even just a little bit, trust me: Kelly and Eric are your jam!

    Very informative
I like this pod a lot because I want to know what to read next. V informative with all the recommendations but... I wish there was more substance! Maybe do a couple episodes every quarter digging deep into a single book or two, with guests and a spoiler disclaimer? Also, a small note: Paper Girls is by Brian K Vaughn, rather than Bryan Lee O’Malley as the podcast and episode notes say.

    Not for me
It really bothered me that Kelly would say that she thought a book by a white author had good rep when people have taken issue with it, especially considering I think Kelly is white too? So how would she know if it's good rep? If people in the communities that are being represented are taking issue with it, how does that make a white person an expert on whether their complaints are valid? I've been thinking about this since the episode came out. Being married to someone does not give you their identity, and does not make you above mistakes, you know?

    Great for YA librarians
This is my favorite YA-focused podcast. Before this one is yet to find one I really enjoyed and benefitted from. This has a nice balance of professionalism while still being fun and friendly, and I think the two hosts compliment each other nicely.

    Bleh
More insufferable crap from Book Riot. I don't know why I keep trying these podcasts. They come across like these overly pietistic people who talk softly and laugh softly and it's just kind of creepy. Real people don't exist that way. Okay maybe librarians do. But it comes across kind of condescending on a podcast, to be honest, like they're the book people and we're not and they've figured out how to speak so you know they're book people. And then they talk about books no one knows about and that they themselves haven't even read, but since they're the publishing people, they have to sound cool and talk about them. Just ugh...

    Want to love it...
I’m so sorry to leave a negative review, because I am a huge Book Riot fan. As a high school English teacher, I was so excited about a podcast dedicated to YA. I am a loyal listener to the Book Riot and All the Books podcasts, which I love. Eric and Kelly are very knowledgeable, I’m sure, but their verbal tics are completely distracting. I just tried for the third time to listen to an episode, and after Eric said “Um...” or “Uhh...” 31 times in one book pitch (I counted) I HAD to turn it off. :( So disappointed. Please please Rebecca (pod-cat queen): help him out! I would love to love this podcast!

    Love Love Love!!!
I absolutely love this podcast. For a while I have been looking for a good, coherent YA podcast. Thank you Kelly and Eric for the awesome content. I think my favorite part about this podcast is the diversity of books. Some YA podcasts tend to only talk about the more popular books (Divergent, Hunger Games). But these guys are constantly expanding my TBR and I love them for it. So thank you.

    Not great so far
This podcast lacks heart. I know it's early days but so far it just feels like the hosts are rattling off YA Titles, without any solid content or thoughts behind them. I haven't pulled a single "TBR" from this podcast (and I do love YA!). Maybe the show needs a few guests or a bit more structure to spice it up. Sorry for constructive feedback, I just would so love for this podcast to be excellent!

    Show notes, please
The podcast itself is great: good audio, nice chemistry between the hosts, good energy. I really enjoy having more books to add to my ever growing pile to To Be Read. But please, please, PLEASE add show notes of all the books you mention, especially if it’s one you discuss somewhat at length. Maybe it’s already available somewhere and I just can’t find it (I’m on Overcast, in case it only appears on iTunes or something) but it gets really frustrating when I have to pause mid sentence to look up the book title and author so I can write it down. Sometimes, I can’t hear it properly or am unsure of the spelling, particularly with author names.

    YA Introspective
I really enjoy the perspective of both editor, agent, and writer that Eric and Kelly bring to YA lit. I can’t wait for more episodes! Also, congrats on your newborn, Eric!

    Bookriot
I love all the Bookriot podcasts. They are all unique in their own style.
  • DeludedMythos
    Great pod!
I’m sure happy these two started a podcast! They are clearly knowledgeable in the subject and are very comfortable around each other. I look forward to all future episodes!

    Fun and engaging
I love the Book Riot podcasts, and Kelly and Eric have a great vibe -- they're clearly both knowledgeable and enthusiastic, which is the holy grail of podcasts for me.
